Today we are talking about the imposter syndrome, what is it, how to overcome it and why it matters in business.
By definition the
impostor syndrome (also known as impostor phenomenon, impostorism, fraud syndrome or the impostor experience) is a psychological pattern in which an individual doubts their accomplishments and has a persistent internalized fear of being exposed as a "fraud".
We have full on doctors, graduates and highly qualified people coming into the online space or starting their own business believing they are not qualified to have a business.
If you’re starting out brand new this is one of the many obstacles I see people face so listen to the entire podcast to cover some of the solutions.
You may feel that
- While you’re struggling to figure out your own new identity, you are also thinking “why would people listen to me.” You look at all your mentors and think wow they have really “made it” depending on your definition of what that means
- So a solution of some deep work comes into play and you identify your skills you currently have and your unique abilities and hone in here.
- The biggest thing, if you’re going to start a coaching or consulting business but don’t invest into business coaching or consulting yourself. That’s where you’re really going wrong.
If you think you’re going to do it all yourself, stop that and get a coach.
