About Our Guest – Clive Rodell
For Season 2, Episode 1 of The Week In Waves with Spinksy, we're joined by one of surfing and strength & conditioning's most experienced minds, Clive Rodell. With over five decades of experience in athletic development, coaching, surfing, and performance training, Clive has built a reputation as a mentor who combines practical knowledge, innovation, and a deep understanding of human performance.
Clive's career spans professional surfing, elite athlete development, strength and conditioning coaching, fitness education, and international speaking engagements. Originally from Cornwall in the UK, he competed, coached, judged, and organized surfing events before moving to Australia, where he became heavily involved in the country's surfing and performance training scene. Over the years he has worked with professional surfers, Olympians, musicians, and athletes across a wide range of sports.
A respected mentor and educator, Clive has lectured in fitness and sport, developed training courses, mentored coaches and personal trainers, and delivered presentations both in Australia and internationally. His expertise is particularly recognized in exercise technique, injury prevention, strength and conditioning, and surf-specific performance training.
Throughout his career, Clive has worked alongside elite athletes including World Champion surfer Layne Beachley, Olympian Liane Fenwick, professional surfers on the ASP/WQS tours, and many other high-performing competitors. His philosophy centres on individualized coaching, long-term athlete development, and helping people achieve better results while reducing injury risk.
Beyond the gym and coaching arena, Clive continues to contribute to the surfing community through surf fitness education, mentoring, writing, and athlete development. His wealth of experience and unique perspective make him an ideal guest to kick off Season 2 of The Week In Waves with Spinksy.
