In this episode, I had the opportunity to interview New York based artist, AJ Lavilla, at his pop up shop in the Lower East Side. AJ created The Dream is Real Pop up exhibit to encourage all dreamers to continue chasing and living their dreams despite all the challenges and difficulties they face. His artwork is all about positivity and in the podcast he talks about his journey of discovering his true passion in life and how meaningful it was for him to inspire the youth. It all began when he was evicted from his apartment in Queens, quit his 9 - 5 job, and travelled to the Philippines for a year to soul search.

In this episode, I interview 20 year-old DaJoir Thomas and he shares his journey discovering his passion in life. It all started when he got involved with the Manhattan Neighborhood Network, a non-profit organization that provides courses in video production, editing, and broadcasting. He is currently a host on the network’s “The Spotlight” and on his own show called “Kickback and Chill”.

This episode was so fun to do! I just met Josh for the first time an hour before doing this interview. We matched on Bumble, I asked him what I had to check out before leaving Arizona, and he didn’t know because he just moved here 2 weeks ago from Massachusetts but he mentioned he listened to episode with my mom. He has such an inspiring story & hustles so hard! In the podcast he talks about not going college and feeling like a failure, to becoming a 3rd degree black belt in karate and teaching kids, to now living in the west coast, running his own social media marketing agency, setting up a mentor program, and helping others with their hustle. It was like I met my twin so thank you Bumble algorithms. Also take a listen to a podcast Josh did with Hyper Conscious, it is one of the best podcasts I’ve listened to!

This is a very special episode because I interview the most important person in my life, my mom. If you know me, you know how much my mom means to me and every time I talk about her I cry because she’s just an amazing woman. She is the reason I work so hard because I owe this woman the world. She is also the biggest weekly HUSTLER I know. At a very young age, hard work was instilled in my mom and her 11 other siblings (yes, she has 12 siblings!). She was the first from her family to leave the Philippines at the age of 24, started her life here in NYC, took on some really tough jobs and raised me as a single mother. Even at her age now (62, yeah I know she looks 40!), she still works almost 6 days a week as a nanny/ housekeeper, has a side hustle as a Mary Kay Beauty Consultant, volunteers for non-for-profit Filipino organizations, and she manages to have more of a social life then me!

This episode I interview my friend Sam and SHE is the amazing artist behind The Weekly Hustle podcast logo! Over the past couple years, she’s managed to build a business being completely anonymous. She has allowed her art to speak for itself and has had incredible success in doing so. This is part two of my interview with Katie, she opens up about the recent passing of her dad and describes their tumultuous relationship. Saying goodbye to a loved one is extremely difficult and I am amazed by Katie’s strength throughout this process. We also talked more about her love for writing and some of her more personal goals as it relates to writing (see links below for some of her writing). In part one in my interview with Katie, we talk about what she had gone through highschool and college to that led to her writing her first freelance piece. She was student council president at her all girls high school, spoke at her high school graduation, was an RA in college, and was that chick that always made people laugh. Somehow all of this lead to her first piece called “A Million Different Pieces: How I Hid The Fact That I Was Cutting Myself” with Refinary 29. As she shared with me her very personal journey, I learned about how writing became her comfort and allowed her to overcome such a difficult time in her life.

For this episode, I wanted to interview someone working in a creative space because I know there’s a different struggle there that I am unaware of. Mark, first generation Mexican-American, shares why he decided to stop going to college to pursue a career in photography, film, and media. He gives insight on some of the more common struggles creators/ artists deal with such as - knowing the value of your work, differentiating yourself from others, and the importance of surrounding yourself with supportive people.
