Welcome to Season 2 of The Weekly J.

Have you ever wondered where the name TEAM BOOM or BOOM came from?  Or wanted to hear someone's origin story?  Today that is exactly what we wanted to share with you.  Our very own Jason C. Scott shares his origin story and how the name BOOM came to be.  We also discuss what he's doing now in the Veteran space and how our team Dynamic has developed under our fearless and ferocious leader.

In the Navy, to  "Nuke It Out" is:  To reason out a problem by eliminating obvious wrong answers.  It Used to encourage someone to put forth more effort before giving up on a problem; however, it is also used to express that one is digging so deep into something that they end up overthinking it.  That the task is so simple or uncomplicated and basically, you are complicating it.

Our recent guest, on the last show for the year 2020, happens to be  former nuclear engineer that after a pivotal moment in his life he completely "Nuked" it out on the Code of Federal Regulations as a way to cope.  This then lead to the creation of Atlas Benefit Consulting that is lead in unison with his wife, Tashina.

Our recent guest wants to give you permission to dream again.  He says to create your Emerald City.  Create it and keep recreating it and ensure that everything you do moving forward with your life is to reach that goal.

He is also CEO of Get Warrior Tough, his Mental Toughness Training Center and has written 4 publications; his proudest accomplishment was the publication of 7 Secrets of Resilience for Parents. 

Andrew Wittman's advice is vast in this episode.  He says to make sure that you are always coachable and that you are allowed to tell the problem once, and that anything after that is complaining.  Our Veterans learn this while on Active Duty, that is you bring a problem, there had better be a solution as well.

The purpose of creating the emerald city is to have a 300 year plan with a 50,000 foot view.

His message to Veterans that are about to get out is to prepare now and have your Emerald City in mind so you are always working toward that goal to leave a legacy.

Our recent guests, yes that is plural, were from the infamous Vets2Industry (V2I) non-profit that has been all the rage among the Veteran community lately.  

V2I went live with their website in March 2019 and now has 24K Followers and climbing.  They have already taught at some Military Transition classes and they have a train the trainer mentality.  Where they freely give  information, tools, and resources for the Veteran Community, and you know here at The Weekly J, We LOVE go-givers. 

According to the V2I team we had on the show, they gain another 1,000 followers every 9 days.

Every 3 weeks they have virtual networking events that fill up quickly.  COVID hasn't kept this group down, in fact they have flourished in providing goodness and value to our military community.

Right now they need more to learn about V2I, they need more volunteers, and they need help share their message and they need sponsors to continue to help them grow.

Our recent guest is a Junior Enlisted Rep who shares with us staggering statistics about the Junior Enlisted community and their separation. 

Tyler Hoskins joins us from Hire Heroes USA and shares with us how and why they created a Junior Enlisted Program geared to seeking out junior enlisted separating sooner than the 36 month benchmark that they have noticed from their own statistics.

Tyler,  a Veteran himself, and one who experienced some of the same hardships he is now trying to prevent.

They noticed, as many other VSOs have noticed, that senior leadership tends to start retirement 12 months out and sooner, but the junior enlisted community staggers into their midst way too late and many don't even know that these VSOs are available to them.

That is why, we here at the Weekly J, felt it important to have the guests on the show that we do.

She has many years in the hiring and recruiting industry.  She wants to hire more Veterans, but has some words of wisdom to share with them on how they can approach this industry a little better.

She is here today to help you in speaking about her experiences and how you might be able to avoid some past mistakes; as well as, some tips on resume writing for the job that YOU want.

 Kathy Hammond is a close friend of ours and is packed full of valuable information from the “civilian” world.  On today's show we discuss how Kathy words Business to Business with sophisticated sales.  We discuss how she wants to hire more Veterans and her experiences with some of those she has worked with.

 One Veteran stood out to her as someone who was willing to learn and take initiative.  In the civilian world, you have to tailor resume as a marketing tool for the job you want.  Every single bullet is a marketing tool and it is living and breathing according to Kathy.  Outside of the military the question remains of “what can you do for me.”  

Her number one word of advice is if you are wanting to do sales, even at an entry level, get in with a larger company and moonlight there for a while.  She feels they have valuable tools and assets to set you up for success.

Today's guest is our very FIRST Army Veteran to be on the show since we revamped, The Weekly J.

We dig into a wonderful adventure with Sharron Stewart, who is the Texas Veterans Commission, Women Veteran Coordinator.  We discuss her time in service and what she does to help the Veteran Community.

She discusses the importance of having someone to guide the women Veterans.  She even mentioned some hard truth about the Woman Veteran that many of them separate or retire, often with children, and that they don't wait for the leadership position that they earn.  They often take any position that opens up because they are focused on security and stability.  

She may be stationed in Texas, but she helps any Veteran who comes her way.

Her curious mind and strong attitude show her passion and compassion for helping these Veterans.  She assists anywhere from resume writing, to finding them help with bills and housing, to assisting them in the job network, etc.

Our recent guest is a true firecracker.  She has a heart of gold and a mind that is full of knowledge.

Our recent guest you may remember we had her husband on a few weeks ago, but she has been paving her own way outside of her “military spouse” title, so, we just had to have her on her own show.

Nila Thompson has been helping service members and their families for years and when her husband retired they made a vow to ensure that they would continue to be pillars in their community.  Bruce caught wind of an opening for a position with Veterans Ascend and Nila was determined to earn a chance for that position.
