The Weekly Whats Update

Another episode I got to record before the Pandemic of 2020 hit with one of my favorite local indie bands Indigo Kidd (two ds).  Transplants from east Washington (not like Seattle, think more Vegas landscape with a lot less going on) this band hits all the right notes when it comes to writing songs with feeling and true angst you hear through haunting lyrics and twangy guitar riffs.  I stumbled upon them one blurry night at local favorite live music spot The Bunkhouse in downtown and was pleasantly surprised from start to finish of the show and have been a fan ever since.  Eli also works at our local Coffee shop Mothership inside Fergusons Downtown so it was inevitable for me to sit down and pick his brain on his latest endeavors and plans for the future (once of course we are out of the water on this crazy time).

We are switching gears and going to a podcast I got to record about a week before the word "pandemic" could be found anywhere within 2 seconds of browsing the internet.  We travel to a much more fun time when I got to sit down with one of Downtowns staples in the Food Industry from my favorite Pizza Spot Good Pie.  Vincent Rotolo has been feeding DTLV since his start on Fremont Street at another local favorite Pizzeria Evel Pie (the question of Good Vs. Evel has been answered within this recording!) and has opened his own spot in The Pawn Plaza making some of the finest Pies this side of the Mississippi.  Vince's energy and passion are just as addicting as his pizza and anyone that has ever spent more than 5 minutes with his knows he is all about feeding the community through art, food, and love that you can taste in every bite!  We get chat to a little about his downtown journey and his future plans that are already rolling out for Good Pie 2.0 in the Arts District!

Keeping things trucking along we are going to be working along with Commonwealth in the next couple of weeks to keep content rolling to you guys.  We are going to be hosting mixes on Commonwealth's Mixcloud and we will be featuring the DJ of the week doing the mix right here on Whats Up DTLV so everyone can get a little inside look on the person behind the mix.  The first mix was from our last guest DJ PDot and you can find it on Mixcloud.com/commonwealthlv (go and follow us!) and up next we have DJ Verz who dropped in on Vegas during anther dark time a day after the Route 91 shooting but still made the best of his situation and began to DJ in downtown at SNAPBACK and Cuffin.  Now you can find Verz as a resident weekly (after this is over) rocking the Commonwealth rooftop.

Right before all the craziness really hit the fan I got to sit down with my partner in crime every Friday night at Commonwealth LV, Marc Santaromana aka DJ PDot.  We touch a little on the craziness ahead for everyone in the Entertainment business (update everything has now been shut down and we never ended up having to make the decision to play on St. Patricks day in downtown Vegas) and a little on his first experiences as a DJ.  We also got to reminisce about living in LA during the "Golden Era" of the Indie Dance surge and touched on Marc's tech savvy videos he makes helping digital DJs worldwide.  Make sure to check with your local channels to find where you can help out entertainers from all over the industry through different outlets like www.musiciansfoundation.org/apply.

Everyone knows Hassan in downtown Vegas.  His familiar face, swaggy walk, impeccable freestyle flow, and if you know him well his big hugs. Hassan has been a center point in the Downtown Vegas Hip Hop scene for years.  You may remember him from his latest video he did for Fat Black and Awesome working with local creatives to get his message out on what life is like as a black male in todays society.  I get to catch up with Hassan and talk shop on his latest endeavors along with a little history on where he's from and a little preview of his new sounds to come!
