The upper story and lower stories collide when Joseph's brothers return to Egypt. We see shadows of what confession and repentance can look like when Judah takes ownership of his past for the first time. The invitation gleaned from this text is to confess and repent, that you might find wholeness with God and freedom from sin through Christ.    Speaker: Brad Bell

Meanwhile back in Canaan, Joseph's brothers relay what happened in Egypt to their father, Jacob. This brings Jacob to confront his closed-handedness with God and ultimately brings him to a process of reconciliation.  Speaker: Brad Bell

When the famine brings Joseph face to face with his brothers, the fruit of his desolation is revealed. Instead of choosing the easy path of vengeance or retaliation, Joseph is prepared to forgive.  Speaker: Brad Bell

After waiting through years of desolation, Joseph is exalted into one of the most powerful positions in Egypt. In our waiting, the Lord is working in us so that He may then work through us.  Speaker: Brad Bell

God is with us, even in times of desolation. Through desolation, God is at work in us in a way that consolation never could provide. Speaker: Brad Bell

Josephs's life had many ups and downs, but scripture reiterates that God was with him always. Even today, whether you find yourself in a time of consolation or a time of desolation, God is still with you. Speaker: Josh Hawley

We meet Joseph in what seems like a sad story of extreme family dysfunction. Rather than moving through the visible hand of miracle, God moves through the invisible hand of providence throughout this chapter.
