This episode is all about getting you back—back to your authenticity, your brilliance, and the life you were always meant to live.
My guest, Lisa Johnson, knows exactly what it’s like to lose yourself in the chaos of a toxic relationship and high-conflict divorce—and what it takes to rise again. As the co-founder of Been There Got Out, high-conflict divorce strategist, and certified domestic violence advocate, Lisa has walked the walk. She represented herself in scores of court appearances, with her case now published in the Connecticut Law Journal as legal precedent. Her testimony also helped pass Jennifer’s Law, expanding the legal definition of domestic violence in Connecticut to include coercive control.
Together with her partner, Chris, Lisa coaches people who feel trapped in high-conflict relationships, divorce, custody battles, and co-parenting nightmares. Through their coaching and weekly Legal Abuse Support Group, they guide people not only toward better outcomes in family court but also toward reclaiming their power, clarity, and peace.
Lisa is the co-author of Been There Got Out: Toxic Relationships, High-Conflict Divorce, and How to Stay Sane Under Insane Circumstances (2023)—a book that has already given thousands the courage to stand tall again. This year, she’s releasing a new book on what to do when an ex tries to turn kids against you, along with her online program, From Fear to Fierce in Family Court.
In this conversation, we explore:
- How to reclaim your identity after coercive control and emotional abuse
- Why authenticity and self-trust are the greatest tools in healing and rebuilding
- Strategies for staying grounded through high-conflict legal battles
- The journey from fear and survival to brilliance and self-expression
If you’ve ever felt like you lost yourself in a toxic relationship or an overwhelming legal system, this episode will remind you that you can get back to you—stronger, wiser, and more radiant than ever.
