Dr. Rebecca Mears generously shared some amazingly helpful information with me recently, and I knew I had to share it with you all. VIN Foundation has a plethora of great information available to veterinary professionals for ZERO dollars :)

Personalized help with student loans and repayment for veterinarians and vet students is completely FREE through VIN Foundation! This is done through an anonymous post on the student debt area of the VIN message boards. If someone is not a VIN member, they can create a free VIN Foundation login, which gives access to a small section of the message boards.  Posting anonymously allows for a thorough discussion without identifying information being shared and others can learn alongside at the same time.  If someone still has questions after a discussion on the message boards, additional help may be available through a phone/Zoom consultation, but it is suggested that a donation be made to VIN Foundation to help offset the time that goes into that session.

Matthew Salois, PhD is currently the President of the Veterinary Study Groups, Inc. (VSG), where he is responsible for enhancing the economic and cultural success of more than 1,800 veterinary member practices. 

Most recently, Matt was the chief economist and head of the veterinary economics division at the AVMA between 2018 and 2022, where he applied his skills in economics, business, and communication to support the daily lives of veterinarians. 

From 2014 to 2018, he served as director of global scientific affairs and policy at Elanco Animal Health, supervising a team of scientists in veterinary medicine, human medicine, animal welfare, economics and sustainability. His group devised and executed scientific engagement strategy, and built collaborative partnerships with universities, non-profit associations and scientific societies. 

Matt is also an adjunct professor of applied economics at the University of Florida, where he previously taught and advised graduate and undergraduate students. He earned his Ph.D. in Applied Economics from the University of Florida and holds an M.A. in Economics and a B.S. in Health Services Administration from the University of Central Florida.

In sharing her path from burned out surgical resident to thriving house call concierge vet, Dr. Eve Harrison highlights a fundamental truth - veterinary medicine can truly be whatever you make of it. Spectrum of care may or may not be a new phrase for you. I feel as though I personally only understood it in vague terms, but after speaking with Dr. Cherice Roth for today's episode, I am clearly on the "this is super important!" bandwagon! Today we cover everything from the transition from vet school into practice to providing care for under-served communities to veterinary telehealth options and finally back around to mentorship. Dr. Cherice Roth is a graduate of Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine. Before veterinary school, she earned a Master’s Degree from the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Biochemistry. She spent time perfecting her exotic animal medicine and surgical knowledge in Australia, and upon returning to the U.S., mentored and guided veterinary assistants and DVMs in her home hospitals. She has held many roles within veterinary medicine from associate DVM, Medical Operations Support Manager all the way to Chief Veterinary Officer. Dr. Roth has done clinical, industry and administrative
work within Veterinary Medicine. She was one of the developers of the RACE approved Virtual Care University as well as MyPetDoc. Dr. Roth has remained on the cutting edge of perfecting virtual veterinary care. She is currently the Chief Veterinary Officer of Fuzzy Pet Health as well as an advisory board member for Multicultural Veterinary Medical Association (MCVMA) and  Veterinary Professionals Instilling Black Excellence (VIBE). She believes that veterinary virtual care is the answer for health disparities in pets as well as part of the answer to psychological health issues of veterinary professionals.
Dr. Roth is also the author of children’s books “What’s a REAL Doctor?” and “What does a REAL Doctor look like?” Both books focus on veterinary medicine, diversity, STEM and representation. Outside of work, you can find her in the woods of Oregon with her many, many “Roth Ranch” animals, her sons (The Rothlings), and husband, or serving on the medical board for several boxer, Doberman and dachshund charitable organizations.

Continuing to serve part time in the Army National Guard, he is also the Medical Director at the National Mill Dog Rescue, a non-profit located in Colorado that rescues, rehabilitates, and re-homes over 1,100 commercial breeding dogs every year.
