From the podcast: a few of Dr Tammy’s favourite things
How Tammy starts her day: It’s important for me that I get up with my daughter who’s 14. She gets up super early to get on the bus. She doesn’t need me but it’s important to me that I let her know I wake her up, so she knows I’m there.
My husband also makes me coffee in the morning, so it’s connecting to those two. I could never sleep through that.
Spirituality practice: I think my spiritual practice is really being outside. I think nature absorbs emotion, and I’m very connected to being outside.
Creativity practice: Part of my creative Being outside and having that time without my phone, being alone. And writing is my creative process.
Relationships practice: My whole life is a relationship. My daughter has sex ed at school and some of her friends know I’m a sex therapist and asked her, “Did your mom have the talk with you?” to which she replied, “My whole life is the talk!”
Books: As well as my books (see “About Tammy” at the top of this page), I’d recommend “Getting the love you want” by Harville Hendrix – it changed the way I saw marriage and why people choose each other. It explains all the mistakes, that there are no mistakes.
Dr Tammy’s parting message:
The most important thing to work on is your relationships in life. If you’re not working on that, nothing else will change.
