This episode is recorded live, as the action unfolds, on one of many vast ranches in the mountains of the Eastern Cape, South Africa. It is completely unscripted and unplanned.

Much like many parts of the USA— farmers in South Africa use trained hounds to help control local predator populations. They do this to reduce predation on their far roaming-livestock and new-born animals. Despite this training, hound success rates tend to be low, but help keep the cats and jackals a safer distance. We learned this from two local hound hunters named Themba and Gogo, who we interviewed spontaneously on the side of a mountain. This is their story.

This is hard-earned knowledge from over 40 years spent fishing local waters in a wooden row-boat, designed and constructed by his own fair hand. Although he's been chasing birds with a shotgun since he was a young nipper... it wasn't until an extremely close-call changed his life, shifting his priorities back to the feathered creatures he always loved to chase. Cole Wilks has been putting wild meat on the table (and in the freezer) since he was a kid. Spending months of each year hunting with a bow, it's unsurprising that he's an absolute pro at wilderness survival.

Cole has featured as a coach on Hunt Warz, made the final 22 in Season 7 of Alone, and emerged triumphant from a 21-day challenge in the latest season of Discovery channel's Naked and Afraid. On top of that he runs workshops, online classes, hosts a new podcast and has a successful channel on YouTube. Suffice to say if there's a wilderness flavored pie, Cole's got his finger in it.

Despite his ominous title, ‘the Doc’ has been sharing nuggets of wisdom with outdoor enthusiasts for decades. Hans and Adrienne Olufs began their journey as high-school sweethearts with a mutual love of wild places... they’ve since become two halves of a backwoods power-couple.

Creators and owners of West Coast Archery Shop north of San Francisco, together they’ve helped build and support a community of archers, hunters, and likeminded adventure-lovers from the wider area. They’ve also achieved all this while raising a kid, who we should add has successfully chased more big game with a bow than most grown-ups!
