JOURNAL PROMPTS / SMALL GROUP GUIDE
Read through John 6:26-51. Share what the passage reveals to you about God, about humanity, and about following Jesus. Then discuss some or all of the following questions:
- Jesus tells the crowd they were seeking him for physical bread rather than spiritual nourishment. What material or temporary things are you currently pursuing that might be distracting you from deeper spiritual hunger? How might God be trying to awaken "holy dissatisfaction" in your life?
- The podcast discusses how we often want formulas to earn God's favour, but Jesus simply says "believe in the one whom God sent." Where in your spiritual life are you still trying to work for what God freely gives? What would it look like to truly trust Jesus rather than rely on your own efforts?
- Jamie and Nick talk about how true satisfaction comes not from what we do, but from who we trust. Reflect on a time when you experienced deep spiritual satisfaction in Christ. What were the circumstances, and how might you cultivate more of that experience in your current season?
- Jesus says, "I am the bread of life" and "I won't send away anyone who comes to me." How does this promise affect your confidence in approaching God, especially during times when you feel spiritually distant or unworthy? What prevents you from fully believing this promise?
- Nick and Jamie discuss how "the desire to be with God is a gift from God" and how we can't manufacture spiritual hunger. In what areas of your spiritual life have you been trying to "whip up emotions and desires" rather than asking God to create genuine hunger? What would it look like to pray, "God, give me the desire to desire you"?
End your time by taking a minute to listen to the Holy Spirit and prayerfully choose an “I will…” intention. One small, practical step you’ll take this week to put your learning into practice.
