  • Blazing Saddles Episode 46: You know, morons!

We continue with The Waco Kid trying to sooth the hurt feelings of Sheriff Bart. He reminds Bart the people of Rock Ridge are simple farmers; the common clay of the new west. Then he adds, "You know, morons!" This does the trick and snaps Bart out of his stupor. Unfortunately, the moment does not last as a rumble announces the approach of Mongo riding a bull. Everyone in town begins to scream and scatter at the approach of the man-beast.

  • Blazing Saddles Episode 45: Up yours

The scene opens with Bart trying to simulate a draw on Jim, but the Waco Kid is too fast. Bart is thankful those figers aren't loaded. Bart then reminds The Kid, once he establishes himself in the town, they have to accept him. Jim takes a toke and wishes Bart good luck! Unfortunately for the optimistic sheriff, the first citizen he meets is the old woman we saw being hit repeatedly in the stomach during the Number 6. When Bart mentions it's a lovely morning, she replies, "Up yours, ni**er." Bart is left frozen in place with a half smile and stunned eyes. We dissolve back to inside the sheriff's office where Jim is trying to console a dejected Sheriff Bart.

Our scheduled guest was once again unable to make it, so your hosts tackle today by themselves. However, we have it on good authority that attorney Brad Stephens will be able to join us on later minutes later this season.

  • Blazing Saddles episode 44: Deputy Spade might turn out to be a groovy position

The scene opens with The Waco Kid shaving while Bart rolls a special cigarette. As the sheriff takes his first toke, Jim catches a whiff. As he returns to shaving, he says he received a note earlier. Bart asked from whom? Jim replies, "I'm not sure. It was addressed to the Deputy Spade." Sheriff Bart laughs and then adds, "Who knows? In 20 years, Deputy Spade might turn out to be a groovy position." The minute ends with Bart seeming to be taking his time standing. It's almost as if he is up to something, but we will have to wait to see what happens in the next episode.

Our guest today was...well...absent. We will have attorney Brad Stephens join us later in the season. In the interim, enjoy some banter between the hosts of The Wilder Ride, Alan Sanders and Walt Murray.

During this we notice a disappearing and a reappearing biscuit in Mongo's hand. When Taggart asks Mongo, how'd you like to mutilate that new sheriff, Mongo laughs with simple delight. To celebrate, Taggart gives him a cigar. Mongo promptly lights it and his head on fire. The scene dissolves to the following day in the town of Rock Ridge.

  • Blazing Saddles Episode 42: Why don't we give him to Mongo?

We begin today with one of the most talked about and iconic scenes in cinematic comedy. Mel Brooks famously told novice actor Burton Gilliam on the day of the campfire scene that he was going to make him famous. The first known instance of men farting on screen broke as much new comedy as the men themselves were breaking wind. As the scene unfolds, Taggart asks for a volunteer to kill the new sheriff of Rock Ridge. Lyle says, "Why don't we give him to Mongo?" The men all cackle with laughter at the thought.

The Indian war leader continues his assessment of the young Sheriff Bart and his family. He cries out to the heavens and then he tells the family it's okay to leave. They all thank him and give the reins a snap to get the horses moving. As they leave the frame, the Indian leader comments to his fellow warriors, "They darker than us! Woof!!" The scene fades back to the jail where Bart finishes his story, only to find Jim has fallen asleep. Bart looks to us and tells us he always likes to keep his audience riveted. As the minute winds down, we have a slow dolly shot across a string of barbed wire. It is at night and we are now moving to the camp of the hired guns for the railroad.

  • Blazing Saddles Episode 39: You might say we was bringing up the rear

As Jim takes a drink it is now his turn to get some background. He asks Sheriff Bart how a dazzingly urbanite like him, wound up in a rustic setting like Rock Ridge. As Bart begins to tell his story, the music swells and we get the Blazing Saddles theme done as full orchestra with a heavy western motif. A long line of wagons is heading west along the prairie. Bart explains that in '56, he and his family were part of that wagon train. He then corrects himself. He explains they were not so much a part of it. He says, "You might say we was bringing up the rear." Suddenly, the entire Sioux nation was riding down to attack them.
