  • The first shot

April 12, 1861. Charleston Harbor. The cannons opened fire—and America changed forever.

In this episode of the Willie Jackerson Experiment, we head back to Fort Sumter and the explosive events that ignited the American Civil War.

How did a standoff at a small fort in Charleston Harbor become the opening battle of a conflict that would tear the nation apart? Who fired first? Why was Fort Sumter so important? And what happened during those brutal 34 hours of bombardment?

We're digging into Major Robert Anderson, General P.G.T. Beauregard, the Confederate bombardment, the Union surrender, and the chain of events that followed.

And because this is the Willie Jackerson Experiment, we're not stopping at the history books. We're bringing the story to life with an original metal song inspired by Fort Sumter—blending Southern speed metal, melodic death metal, Appalachian banjo, blistering guitar work, and a whole lot of cannon-fire energy. 🤘🔥

One fort. One bombardment. One first shot.

    The Civil War had begun.

  • Attila the Hun

The Willie Jackerson Experiment – Attila the Hun: History, Legend, and the Sound of Conquest

Who was Attila the Hun—the ruthless barbarian who nearly brought the Roman Empire to its knees—or has history exaggerated the legend?

In this episode of The Willie Jackerson Experiment, we ride across the windswept steppes to explore the life, military campaigns, and lasting legacy of one of history's most feared conquerors. We'll separate historical fact from myth, examine the rise of the Hunnic Empire, and discuss why Attila's name has inspired both fear and fascination for more than 1,500 years.

Musically, this episode features "Attila the Hun" by Skullwinx, along with the premiere of my own original song inspired by the legend. Together they help set the tone for an unforgettable journey into one of history's darkest and most captivating eras.

  • The Last Samurai

The story of the last samurai is one of the greatest tales of honor, courage, and sacrifice ever told. In this episode of the Willie Jackerson Experiment, I explore the fascinating history behind the warriors who stood against the tide of change as Japan entered the modern age.

This episode also became one of my favorite creative projects. I sat down with my 12-string guitar and recorded a simple melody that captured the emotion I was looking for. I then brought that original recording into Suno Pro and made my own original song to create an epic Asian-inspired melodic death metal anthem. The result is a powerful soundtrack that reflects the spirit of the samurai's final stand—blending crushing riffs, traditional Japanese influences, and cinematic storytelling. I also used a track by Sabaton called Shyroyama to showcase this historic event. Researching this episode taught me just how remarkable the samurai truly were. Their unwavering commitment to Bushidō, their loyalty, and their willingness to sacrifice everything for honor left a lasting impression on me. It reminded me that some ideals are worth preserving, even as the world changes around us.

If you enjoy history, heavy metal, and hearing how original music is brought to life, this episode is for you.

⚔️ Honor. Loyalty. Sacrifice. One final battle.
