  • Parenting With Our Parents... Is It An Impossible Mission?

In this episode I invite you to learn more about relationships and how to navigate communication with our parents when we are becoming parents ourselves. Pregnancy is a period that brings with it many changes, both physical and psychological. The couple also experiences a change in their roles towards society and with each other. Our parents and in-laws might have the greatest intentions in mind when they offer parenting advice but this advice could be challenging at times. We will also talk about setting boundaries and how to give your baby, your family and yourself the best care.

I can't wait to see you inside and tell you more about it.

  • How The Archaeology of People Impacts Client Care

In this episode we discuss the archaeology of people. Wait, isn't archaeology about physical remains and ancient cultures? Indeed it is. However, I believe that as people we have archaeological remains of our own and they play an important part during life transitions, such as becoming parents. There are so many things under the surface of each person we interact with, and we need to unveil them with kindness and time. How does it inform the work I do with my doula clients? How can you apply this to everday life? I can't wait to see you inside and tell you more about it.

We are also debuting our new section - Word of the Week - where we have fun learning new words connected to pregnancy, birth and lactation. I hope you will play along and have fun.

  • Discussing Pregnancy and Birth with Children

In this episode I invite you to learn more about how to discuss pregnancy and birth with children. Are you into fantasy or reality when discussing birth with children? Do you think we should stick to "the stork brings the babies" story? Myths and fantasy aside, children are keen observers and always aware of changes, and most of all, they are curious about the world.

I will share some insights from my time working with students in the preschool years and also some tips about the best tools to discuss birth with children. Join me as we discuss the importance of having these conversations with children and preparing them before baby arrives, all with a lense of humor and joy.

I can't wait to see you inside and tell you more about it.

  • Gratitude Without a Rainbow

In this episode of the podcast, we talk about gratitude without a rainbow. You might be wondering, how do gratitude and rainbows connect? Well, we are not talking about the rainbow that comes after an actual storm, but the rainbow baby that follows the metaphorical storm of perinatal loss.

Is it possible to find gratitude and joy again after perinatal loss, even when we didn't achieve that dreamed rainbow pregnancy? In my experience it is, but it's not something that happens overnight.

Join me inside to learn more about that journey, how we rebuilt our life after that experience and the big lessons we learned along the way. This is a story about how we can look back now and be tremendously grateful that our baby daughter existed. This is a tale of sadness, but above all, a tale of joy and gratitude. I invite you to come inside and sit around the virtual fire. It is my honor to share this story with you. You are welcome here.

  • A New Doula, Pancakes and a Homebirth

In this episode I invite you to join me around the virtual fire for a bit of doula storytelling. I am sharing with you the experience of attending my first homebirth a few years ago and how it transformed me, giving me a new insight into the beauty of birth. Tears and joy, fear and courage, all of them were present that night.

This is a story about a journey. A journey of discovering that a homebirth can be a life changing experience, that our bodies can do incredible things, that there's a reason women have been doing this for generations and supporting each other. This is also a story about choices, because everyone deserves to choose the birth that suits them best. I firmly believe that we learn best through the stories we tell, because they allow us to reflect on the experience and share about it. This will not be last story around the virtual fire, so stay tuned.

  • Emotions Don't Come with an Off Switch

In this episode I invite you to learn more about emotions and mental health during pregnancy. We discuss how emotions don't come with an off switch and how society can pressure us to feel joyful an excited at all times during pregnancy. However, this is a time where anxiety can be at an all time high. We will discuss how it's important to understand and acknowledge these emotions, rather than trying to mask them. I will share my own journey of learning more about emotions, my emotions during pregnancy and the things that I am finding helpful. Ultimately, whether we are going through pregnancy or any other period of our lives, we can find ways to understand and welcome our emotions, to accept them and know when to pause and when to look for support.

This is a story about how the understanding, compassion and support we show to our pregnant friends and our family in general can change lives. Together, we can do it.

I can't wait to see you inside and tell you more about it.
