About our guest:
Lisa Wheeler is a trauma therapist, writer, retreat guide, and an “experiencer”. She was born in Austin, Texas where she lived and worked until the fall of 2022 when she moved to Montezuma, Costa Rica following the tragic death of her 17 year old son, Spencer.
Lisa became a therapist after going through her own challenge of spontaneous traumatic memory recovery which began when she was 35 years old in 2008. These memories were accompanied by paranormal experiences which both helped and harmed her at the time. She continues to experience new memories to this day, and has learned how to live cooperatively with the phenomenon. She enrolled in a Master’s in Counseling program in 2011and has worked as a trauma therapist in private practice since 2015. She found her niche in supporting people like herself who have “non-ordinary” experiences like voices, visions, telepathy, and lucid dreaming, among others. Her specialization morphed to include abuse survivors and those folks growing up in narcissistic family dynamics. She also has a passion for supporting teenagers and their parents. She believes the teen years are often the most complicated time for both teens and parents and enjoys educating and supporting families through this unique developmental time. Grief work and bereavement has also been a natural and consistent feature in her work as a trauma therapist.
In 2024 she expanded her professional life into writing, a lifelong dream. Lisa writes articles on Substack about her own healing experiences to help give voice and clarity to the experience of living with traumatic memory and loss of a child. She is also currently working on the second draft of her memoir documenting the time period where her memories first returned.
In 2027, Lisa will be hosting two retreats in Montezuma, Costa Rica with plans for additional retreats in Costa Rica and Texas.
