Last time in John 10, Jesus revealed Himself as the Good Shepherd—the One who does not flee when danger comes, but lays down His life for the sheep.

We saw that His care is not sentimental or symbolic, but sacrificial.

But Jesus is not finished explaining what that means.

In the second half of John 10:11–21, He presses the image even deeper—unfolding the purpose behind His death, the scope of His mission, and the authority under which He acts.

He speaks of other sheep not yet gathered.
Of one flock under one Shepherd.
And of a love so strong that it moves Him freely toward the cross.

And as He does, the division among His hearers sharpens.

Some recognize the voice of the Shepherd.
Others harden themselves against it.

Because the words of Jesus never leave people neutral.

They either draw us into life,
or expose hearts that refuse Him.

Last time in John 10, Jesus revealed that He is the gate—the only entrance into safety, belonging, and abundant life.

But now, beginning in verse 11, Jesus deepens the image even further.

He does not merely protect the sheep from danger.
He does not simply provide access to life.

He tells us how that life is secured.

By laying down His own.

As the conflict with Israel’s leaders intensifies, Jesus makes an unmistakable claim—one that exposes false shepherds, redefines leadership, and points directly toward the cross.

He is not a hired hand who flees when danger comes.
He is the Good Shepherd who gives His life for the sheep.

Last time in John 10, Jesus introduced the image of the shepherd and the sheep.

He exposed false leaders who enter the sheepfold by deception, and He declared that His sheep recognize His voice and follow Him alone.

But Jesus isn’t finished explaining the image.

In today’s passage, He presses the metaphor even further—revealing not only how His sheep are led, but how they are protected, nourished, and given life.

As the tension with Israel’s leaders continues to rise, Jesus makes one of His clearest claims yet:

He is not merely a guide for the sheep—He is the gate through which life itself is found.

Last time in John 9, Jesus exposed the paradox of belief.

The man born blind came to see—because he knew he was blind.
But the Pharisees, confident in their spiritual sight, remained in darkness.

As that chapter closed, the conflict was unresolved.

The healed man had been cast out.
The religious leaders stood condemned.
And Jesus had drawn a clear line between true sight and self-deception.

Now in John 10, Jesus does not change the subject.

He deepens it.

Using the familiar imagery of sheep and shepherds, Jesus confronts Israel’s leaders directly—exposing false shepherds who exploit the flock, and revealing Himself as the only true source of life and protection.

Today in verses 1 through 10, we’ll begin by hearing Jesus draw a sharp contrast:
Between the true shepherd and the thieves, between the voice of Christ and the deception of strangers, and between those who give life—and those who take it.

Last time, we watched Jesus seek out the man who had been cast out by the Pharisees—rejected by the religious system, yet pursued by Christ.

In a quiet encounter, physical healing gave way to spiritual sight.
The man believed.
And for the first time, he truly saw.

But Jesus’ words about sight and blindness were not meant to stay private.

Today, they expose something far more unsettling:
The difference between those who know they are blind—and those who insist they can see.

And that difference makes all the difference.

Last time, the confrontation ended with rejection.
The healed man was cast out by the Pharisees—cut off from the synagogue, dismissed by the religious elite, and left on the outside.

But what happens next is one of the most tender and revealing moments in the Gospel of John.

Jesus hears that the man has been thrown out.
And instead of moving on, instead of letting the system have the final word, Jesus goes looking for him.

In today’s passage, the Light of the world meets a man who has lost everything—but gained sight.
And in a quiet, personal encounter, Jesus presses the question that stands at the center of every life:
"Do you believe in the Son of Man?"

This is not just the end of a miracle story.
It is the beginning of a confession.

Today, that confrontation reaches its climax.

Pressed with questions, threatened with consequences, and surrounded by men who claim to know the law better than anyone alive, this formerly blind man refuses to back down.
With every answer he gives, his physical sight becomes a doorway to spiritual sight... and the truth grows clearer than ever: Jesus is no ordinary man.

By the end of the encounter, the Pharisees rage, the man is cast out, and the dividing line between spiritual blindness and spiritual sight stands in full view.

Last week, we saw Jesus give sight to a man who had never seen a single moment of his life — a miracle that revealed both the compassion and the creative power of the Son of God.
Today, that miracle sets the stage for something just as revealing.

As the healed man is brought before the Pharisees, confusion spreads, controversy erupts, and competing interpretations collide.
The religious leaders cannot deny the transformation, but they also refuse to accept the One who performed it.
His parents shrink back in fear...
The Pharisees cling to their systems...
But the man himself? He simply tells the truth.

In this first part of the confrontation, we watch a remarkable contrast unfold:
A man with brand-new physical sight begins taking his first steps into spiritual sight...
While those who claim to see remain trapped in the deep darkness of unbelief.

Last time, Jesus declared that the man’s lifelong blindness was not the result of personal sin, but the staging ground for the works of God.
And today, in Part 2, we witness those works unfold.

With deliberate compassion, Jesus kneels down, makes clay with His own hands, anoints the man’s eyes, and sends him to wash in the pool of Siloam.
It’s a miracle wrapped in symbol: the Creator using the dust He formed humanity from, the Messiah sending a blind man on a journey of obedience, and the Light of the world breaking into a life that had only ever known darkness.

This is not just a healing—it is a revelation of the One who gives sight to the blind and faith to the willing.
And through this sign, Jesus begins to expose the deeper spiritual blindness that surrounds the miracle itself.

Today we enter John 9 and the remarkable story where Jesus meets a man who has been blind from birth.

The disciples see a theological puzzle—"Who sinned, this man or his parents?"

But Jesus reframes the entire moment:
"It was not that this man sinned, or his parents, but that the works of God might be displayed in him."

In one sentence, Jesus teaches us that suffering is not always judgment—it is often the canvas on which God intends to display His glory. And with divine compassion, He moves toward the man, preparing to open not just physical eyes, but spiritual ones.
