Beginning our new series, connecting with our motto verse for the year, we’re looking at the prayers of Jesus – and in particular one word that features in almost all of Jesus’ prayers. Abba. Father. Daddy. One word that represents the closeness and trust of a child approaching their Dad. Jesus wants us to have this kind of relationship with the Father – we are redeemed, no longer slaves and adopted as his children and his heirs.

It’s been a really upsetting time for our church community this week. In the midst of our collective grief, we explore a message of hope as we wrestle with how to be a Christian in such difficult times. We must decide who we believe Jesus is – both in the best and worst of seasons – and what is going to cost us to choose to follow him. Not just to admire him from afar. To be a disciple – through good time and bad.

As we come to the end of the year we focus on this past tough year and the importance of lament as we process what we’ve been through. Lament turns us to God when sorrow might lead us away from him. As we lament we turn to God, bring our complaint to him, seek his help and choose to trust the Father. Seeing the pain in the world around us – and in our own lives – through the eyes of God and knowing there is hope to be found.

It’s Christmas morning and we’re celebrating together as a family! Today we’re exploring what it feels like to receive a really great – and also a really inappropriate – gift. The gift of a Saviour for the whole world is one that we can really enjoy and appreciate at this time of year. Our family-friendly Christmas Eve service explored the different roles in the nativity story and the message of Christmas that says that everyone matters to God – everyone is important to God and everyone has a role to play – not just the most well-known nativity roles like Mary and Joseph!
