Isaac, the child of promise, is at long last born to Sarah and Abraham. This is a miraculous birth, representing the saving work of the Lord which requires supernatural resurrection life in the face of death. The blessing through Isaac is understood by the New Testament as an illustration of God's grace of election, and of salvation by faith, not works of the flesh.

This is the first installment of a new mid-week Bible study that gathers on the First and Third Thursday each month at Christ Reformed DC. We are exploring some of the themes of David Van Drunen’s book, “Living in God’s Two Kingdoms.”

The emphasis in this story is how Abraham lives among the nations as a sojourner. This is a study in contrasts as we see Abimelech, King of Gerar, calling account to a commonly recognized standard of morality.

Belgic 2022 speaks to the "Regulative Principle," the rule which states that we do only what the Lord has commanded us to do in worship. It also constrains the authority of the church to establishing an order concerning accidental things, and not imposing human laws upon God's people.
