Luke alone tells us about Jesus being presented in the temple, and he uses this story as an illustration of how Jesus has fulfilled the law of the Lord, and thus become both the glory of Israel AND a light to the gentiles.

Luke's nativity emphasizes that Christ has come to establish a heavenly kingdom that brings salvation for all. When our faith rests in these heavenly blessings he secures, our joy is full.

Zechariah is struck deaf and dumb as a curse for his unbelief. After nine months of silence, he bursts forth into a glorious song of praise. In this sermon we look at how his praise puts the good news of Christ's birth in the context of the story of the Bible.

The Belgic Confession concludes its treatment of Christ's saving work by looking at his intercession for the church and his mediation as our perfect high priest. Historical context tells us a lot about why this so, but we would be wise to remember the great comfort we can derive from his mediation each and every day.
