Sarah's death and burial serves as a climax to the covenantal land promises made to Abraham, and show his faith in the resurrection in the face of death.

Understanding the church's relation to the civil government is an important part of our gospel comfort, as well as our calling in the world to love God and neighbor. The Belgic Confession clearly teaches the legitimacy of the state as God's instrument for this-worldly justice and the importance of the believer to submit to the rulers God has put over us.

Abraham's binding of Isaac is one of the most iconic and mystifying stories in the Bible. How could a good God command his servant to kill as a sacrifice the child HE had given him by promise? And why? This sermon explains the importance of understanding Abraham as a type, and the significance of this episode for our faith today.

Isaac, the child of promise, is at long last born to Sarah and Abraham. This is a miraculous birth, representing the saving work of the Lord which requires supernatural resurrection life in the face of death. The blessing through Isaac is understood by the New Testament as an illustration of God's grace of election, and of salvation by faith, not works of the flesh.
