The motivation of our hope is a very powerful thing. The potential of a truly Christian mind is an awesome thing. The holiness cultivated in our lives is an extremely influential thing. We find this and more in the text before us. 1 Pet 1:13 Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; 1 Pet 1:14 as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; 1 Pet 1:15 but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 1 Pet 1:16 because it is written, "Be holy, for I am holy."

This message completes our 5 part series on "Salvation Joy in a Suffering World." Written to suffering Christians,P eter reaches deep into his vast understanding of all that God has done for us Christ now, and will do in heaven. Hence enabling & equipping us to face the suffering that inevitably comes our way as we travel to heaven. Specifically to face it with the salvation Joy imparted to us by Jesus Christ Himself.

There is real comfort hear for troubled hearts. We really need each other in times of hardship, that we might comfort one another in love. Not one of us like trouble, yet it is inescapable. Through the work of the Holy Spirit our God brings to us deep benefits out of our troubles and pain. C.S. Lewis put it so well when he said, "God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our consciences, but shouts in our pain. Pain is His megaphone to rouse a deaf world." This is the final message in the Lazarus Plan series. All 4 previous messages have been leading up to this. Each bringing out mandatory details so often ignored in the rush to get to the raising of Lazarus from the dead. Mandatory to gain the full impact of what Jesus plan was from the moment he received the news Lazarus was sick. On His way to raise Lazarus from the dead, our Lord takes Martha and Mary aside to minister to them privately in their deep grief over their brother's death. This message is full of application to anyone who has to cope with the death of a loved one. There is no comfort to be found on this earth equal to that which Christ alone can bring in these times. This is especially critical considering that the effort of friends & certain family members can often make you feel worse with words that fall woefully short! In our most painful time of loss there is no replacement for the private, intimate comfort of Jesus through His Holy Spirit, whom he called The Comforter.
