Sofia Sorokina is a Ukrainian medical student who was forced to flee her home in Kharkiv in the very first week of the war in Ukraine.
Leaving behind her father and friends, she sought safety in Australia, arriving on the Gold Coast in March 2022 with her grandmother.
Ms Sorokina told Gary Hardgrave on 4BC Drive, "Sometimes it may feel uncertain and sometimes people don't see any light at the end, especially when you're being a refugee in a new country and you've lost everything you've had before."
"My message was that there will be also people that will support you and help you, and [the] world is still kind, and you will also find your way to pursue your dreams."
"Just keep trying, keep moving, and clarity will come with the movement eventually," Ms Sorokina continued.
