Myanmar pastor among 58 men kidnapped

On October 26th 58 men were kidnapped by the Arakan army in the Rakhine State of Myanmar reports International Christian Concern

The army took them from a boat that was carrying over 150 people Among those kidnapped was Pastor U Maung Maung pronounced ooh-MOW-mow from the Myanmar Church of Christ

The Worldview spoke to Gina Goh of International Christian Concern about the pastor and his family who still dont know his whereabouts

GOH At that time he was actually traveling with his eight-month-old daughter and his wife The wife and the girl were released They actually just took the men So there were 58 men that were taken away by the Arakan army The military from the governments side they sent out teams to try to rescue them but also in the process they also killed some They also used helicopters to try and track them down

Christian Missionary Killed in Syria by Turkish Strike

A somber Dave Eubank founder of the Free Burma Rangers explained that Christian missionary volunteer medic and cameraman Zhao Sang died Monday from Turkish shelling reports FaithWirecom

Right after the October 9th Turkish invasion of Northeast Syria Eubanks team of combat medics cameramen and humanitarian volunteers have worked on the front lines At great risk to their own lives they rescued the wounded provided practical aid to those displaced by this war and comforted those in harms way

Even though he was dead because we kept praying for a miracle we worked on him -- total almost two hours -- shocking him adrenaline oxygen We did CPR He was already gone And I remember I had this image through my tears of Zhai in heaven laughing because he was always laughing

Despite Zhai Sangs death Eubank has vowed that their mission of mercy would remain Eubank and others have also called for the US to return to the area stop this Turkish invasion and at the very least impose a no-fly zone

SWANSON Let me ask what the extent of the damage was in your congregation How did it affect your church

THOMPSON The extent of the damage was very very broad because some 30 or so persons had to be given financial support to aid them in the rebuilding or the restoration of their homes and properties Many of us like ourselves had to move out and live with other family and our friends while our home is being repaired Some people even in our meeting have lost their jobs because Freeport has been practically washed out as far as work is concerned

SWANSON Can you speak to the spiritual impact that the hurricane had on the people on the island

THOMPSON I can speak for our church It has drawn us closer together because for instance we have had to add a lot of meetings to our services just to keep people close and in touch

I think the spiritual has been evident in a positive way because more people are now calling I think you can hear more intensity in their prayers now In fact our little temporary sanctuary we have there was filled to capacity on Sunday

SWANSON So where are things now in terms of repairs And how can people in churches in America help at this point

THOMPSON I think our main need now is for construction material because we have a lot to do in the chapel And we want to get back in there as soon as possible by trusting the Lord to see us through He has promised never to fail us And He never has

Tennessee pastor imprisoned in India

On October 5 Tennessee Pastor Bryan Nerren and two other pastors arrived in India to attend two conferences in Nepal and India

Nerren was interrogated over the purpose of his trip and even asked if he was a Christian before he was later arrested Nerren spent nearly a week in jail and even had to go to the hospital because of health conditions Nerren finally got out on bail but a travel ban essentially traps him in India until his court date in December

Northern Ireland greenlights faux homosexual marriage

250 Bahamian churches need 165000 to rebuild church members homes

Here now is the second Bahamas report from Kevin Swanson Director of Generations and the founder of The Worldview in 5 Minutes

SWANSON This is Kevin Swanson with another report from the Grand Bahama Island reviewing the hurricane damage caused by Dorian

The most severe element of this hurricane was the loss of life The storm surge topped 25 feet in some places and pushed five to six miles inland Harrowing stories abound of people rescued on jet skis and front-end loaders barely making it to safe havens One church housed 1500 people over the 48 hours that the storm raged outside with winds blowing at sustained rates of 185 miles per hour

Official numbers for the death count hover around 80 right now because so many of the deaths occurred with the unregistered population The body count was probably much higher that is in the thousands

To give you an idea of what the impact was for the average church on this island Most church buildings I toured have sustained major damage to drywall floor coverings and furnishings From what I have seen most of the churches have already done the mold remediation by stripping out the floor coverings and three to five feet of sheet rock Theyre waiting for material to rebuild the churches

An average-sized church lost four houses and 9-10 homes sustained major damage One of the largest churches in Freeport lost 13 houses and 22 homes sustained major damage to furnishings and drywall

This is somewhat anecdotal but at least 80 of the homes did not have insurance Building material needs for each home and each church on the island would be about 165000 total Thats all of building materials for all of the homes in each of the churches on this island would be about 165000

If American churches would help this little island country 80 miles off the coast of Florida it would take about 300 to 600 local churches in America to partner with the 200 to 300 churches on this island to help rebuild

Chinas crackdown on Christianity

China is cracking down on Christianity as part of a campaign by the countrys Communist Party to eradicate pornography and illegal publications reports Fox News

The suggestion is that Bibles and Biblical materials are somehow comparable to inappropriate images

Since March 2018 the Chinese government has banned online and retail sales of Bibles Plus hymnals and other spiritual books arent allowed in churches unless sanctioned and published by the Chinese Communist Party moving the churches further and further away from any semblance of religious liberty

For the next several days Kevin Swanson founder of Generations and The Worldview will be submitting reports from the Bahamas about the devastation of Hurricane Dorian there

SWANSON This is Kevin Swanson reporting from Freeport Chapel in Freeport Grand Bahama in the Bahamas

Hurricane Dorian has contributed some 7 billion of damage to the Bahamas -- equal to about 100 of the nations Gross Domestic Product That compares to Americas most destructive hurricane Katrina -- which contributed about 2 of the GDP 14 years ago

Dorian was the worst natural disaster in the history of the Bahamas with maximum sustained wind of 185 miles per hour It was the strongest hurricane to make landfall in the Atlantic

The major destruction in this country occurred on two islands -- the Grand Bahama and Abaco the second and third most populated islands of the Bahamas Abaco with a population of 17000 was almost completely destroyed And the east end of the Grand Bahama was most affected by Dorian Grand Bahama has a population of about 51000

At least 70000 people were left homeless An estimated 60 of the homes were not insured And the median household Income here is 26000 --about 40 of that in the United States

Most of the houses were damaged Either the roofs were damaged the water damage was significant and most of the houses that Ive been through And there is a massive shortage of drywall roofing shingles and other building materials Thats whats slowing down the process here in Freeport Grand Bahama

By affiliation the Bahamas is 80 Protestant with Baptists making up the highest percentage of church attendance here
