"The Shining" is my favorite book by Stephen King. I struggled with how to do this review. While I was trying to figure it out I re-watched the movie with my brother and decided that this was they best way to go about talking about this book. The movie is a point of contention for many. In this episode I make my case for peace on both sides of the isle. 

This week on Weird Fiction Theater I read "From Beyond" by H.P. Lovecraft. This story was influenced by Arthur Machen's "The Great God Pan" and itself has been widely influential in the horror and weird fiction genre.

"From Beyond" was first published in The Fantasy Fan 1934.

"Dagon" was first published in The Vagrant in 1919.

This week I review the seminal haunted house story "Hell House" by Richard Matheson

"Hell House" published in 1971 has had long reaching influence on the horror genre. It blends fear, sex and tension in narrative that it will make you look over your shoulder when you are home alone. I have enjoyed reading this book immensely. 

This special episode my wife Sarah and I sat down, with more than a few drinks, to talk about the book the is supposed to be reading for her book group. We had a lot of fun recording this but, unfortunately most of it was drunken shenanigans and not usable. What you are listening to is what survived the cutting room floor. Enjoy!

If you liked the movie I think you will love the book. It has all the anxiety of overcoming incredible odds without having to crowbar in the death of a son that never existed, to establish the stakes.
