Tonight, on the season opener, I’m going to be taking a look back at the year that has followed the December 21, 2012 end of the world date. So what exactly has happened since that fateful date? Well, to make one thing clear, the Maya did not state that the world would come to an end on that date. They simply said that that date marked the end of the current Baktun, or cycle of the Mayan Long Count Calendar. We have just entered the 13th Baktun (or 14th Baktun, depending on how you look at it) and are at the precipice of a new era.
This Baktun is supposed to mark a new way of thinking, a change in the way that we perceive our Earth, those on it and how we treat it. This is supposed to be a shift in our attitude, spirituality and overall, produce a new breed of man - one who thinks of Earth & environment first, treats his fellow man with respect and also promotes peace.
But has this actually happened? Have we really changed our attitude completely or is this something that will take place gradually? To me it looks like the answer is obvious, to others, it is more cloudy. No matter what your feelings on the situation are, it makes for great conversation.
