Suzan Fraser is a the principal of Fraser Advocacy, a specialized litigation law firm focused on enhancing the human, civil and Charter rights of vulnerable and marginalized people. Her areas of practice include mental health, guardianship applications, coroners' inquests, public inquiries, and rights-based advocacy and advice.
Suzan has been counsel in approximately 20 coroner’s inquests involving police shootings of racialized persons, persons with mental health problems, deaths in custody, children and youth connected to child welfare, and First Nations adults and youth.
She acted as counsel to public interest groups with standing: the Inquiry into Pediatric Forensic Pathology (the Goudge Inquiry); the Inquiry into the Safety & Security of Long-Term Care (the Gillese Inquiry) and the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, where she represented a group of 20 families. She represents the Coalition for Gun Control at the Mass Casualty Commission in Nova Scotia.
From 2008 to 2018, Suzan represented the Ontario Child Advocate, an Independent Officer of the Legislature of Ontario at several different proceedings and provided advice to the Child Advocate.
