Armond Croom is a financial whiz, who is also one of the funniest guest I've had the pleasure of speaking with. We talked and laughed for 2 full hours and created two informative episodes, of which, this is the first part.

In part one,  Armond tells us how he attended Tulane University originally to become a doctor, but ended up taking finance, and then joining the US Navy, where he attained the rank of lieutenant at the age of 24. He was in charge of manging  a team of 70 people, overseeing a million dollar operation, running the vending machine operation, two shift stores, the barber shop, and the laundry facility.

After leaving the Navy, Armond was introduced to a group of financial advisors who showed him the ropes on becoming a financial adviser, and he ended up working with that company and taking on his first clients. In just a short amount of time, Armond became the top financial advisor in his office.  After meeting his mentor and going to the next level with his clients, Armond started his own company, Croom Financial.

In this episode I sat down with Nicky Scorpio, who tells us about his love for art, expression, and storytelling.  Nicky got his passion for the arts from his family, his grandfather was a reverand that usesd to sing, his grandmother had a beautiful voice, and his mother would sing to him when he was a kid.

Nicky grew up in a very unique environment. Being raised in an LGBTQ+ home  with a lesbian mother. His birth father was gay, and died of AIDS when Nicky was younger, and his lesbian mothers split up because marriage wasn't legal during their time togther.   This upbringing taught Nicky about acceptance, social justice, and looking for the good in everyone.

Nicky also grew up in a rough neigborhood, but eventually moved to a different town, where he experienced bullying from the rich kids and learned that not everyone was accepting of his upbringing, and these experiences is what lead Nicky to begin using his voice and perspective as a storyteller to share and promote healing.

In High School Nicky would write songs as a way to escape, he would write 4 and sometimes 6 songs per day. When he realized he could really do music, it became a focus and drive for him. Eventually Nicky would meet Katie Chonacas during a recording session in Hells Kitchen NYC, and the connection brought them together to start the group The Sophisticated Psychos, which focuses on creating content on mental health, the power of love, and the celebration of diversity.

Nicky’s goal with music and art is to remove titles that divide people and to start conversations and art that promotes love, ethics, morals, and values for everyone.

Nicky believes that everyone should have a seat at the table and should have a fair chance to know how powerful they naturally are.

Ben Winter is the Author of What to Expect When Having Expectations,  a book about understanding where your expectations come from, what drives them, why you aren't always aware of them, how to come to peace after being upset by an expectation going unmet, and increasing communication with yourself and others.

One of the things that lead to him writing a book was taking an improv class.  Ben had been to several improv shows, and was always in awe of the actors on stage just creating from audience suggestions. Being so in love with the art form, Ben would speak to the people at the improv school who would suggest he enrolled in classes,  but he never had the self confidence to say yes, until he was on a date, and his date decided to take the classes, Ben then joined her and absolutely fell in love with it.

In 2015, Ben had the epiphany that we live every moment of every day of our lives doing improv, "nobody wakes up with a script and even if you had the script, nobody's going to follow it." Upon having this epiphany it became very clear to Ben how the rules of improv apply to life itself. This led him to start the Success Improv company. Not long after starting the business Ben began writing his book What to Expect When Having Expectations.

On this episode of the DailyBrag I sat down with Marvin Storm, host of the Business Exit Stories podcast. Marvin comes from a family of business owners, his father was a mechanic who owned a shop, and Marvin would spend time at the shop during the summer where he would help his dad and watch him manage the business.

After graduating college, Marvin went to work for a large national CPA firm , while working at the firm, he would go after work to play basketball, it was during this time that Marvin met the person that would become his business partner.  After resigning, Marvin and his partner started with a 300 sqft office with two desk facing each other and a telephone. Marvin and his partner built up the business and eventually sold it after 10 years.

Business Exit Stories podcast. Marvin shares some great advice throughout this episode on how to sell your business and the steps in doing so. He states at the end that "you're probably not going to live forever, and that means you're not going to run your business forever. And so if that's the case, then you should start thinking about how you're going to get out of it and who's going to be buying it. It's either going to be someone you know, someone you don't know or you're going to close it up and wind it down. Those are the only three choices. If those are the three choices, you should figure out which one is best for you."

On this episode of theDailyBrag, we talk with Marques Ogden, who was drafted to the National Football League in 2003, where he is  still to this day the only offensive of Lineman ever drafted from Howard University. Marques got drafted to the Jacksonville, but also played for Baltimore, Buffalo, and finished up his career in Tennessee with the Titans. 

After almost 6 years in the NFL Marques retired from the game and fell into a deep depression,  and got into gambling and alcoholism that lasted about 6 momths. Once he was able to pick himself up,  he pursued a career in construction and contracting, where at the age of 27, Marques founded Kayden Premier Enterprises and won the African American Subcontractor of the Year Award in the state of Maryland. Shortly after he went bankrupt, losing almost 2 million dollars on one project in a matter of 90 days.

During his darkest hours, Marques pulled himself together again, got a part-time job as a custodian and with hard work and determination became an inspirational keynote speaker, executive coach, best-selling author and marketing leader, focused on helping others build success.

We found his extreme humbleness and honesty incredibly inspirational.

After having spent two years trying to raise money for her  web series that never got made, she got sick of waiting for someone else to bet on her.  So she decided  she was going to bet on herself, and create her web series, "I'm Not Mad," which is a show about the transformational power of feminine rage. Nina hopes to show the world that we  don’t need a big budget to get an idea across, or wait for things to be perfect, sometimes we just have to work with what we've got. 

Nina also talks shares how she  used the lockdown to launch a business working with authors on turning their published books into 12 months worth of content.

Ibrahim shares,  "to seem special you have to feel special, and to feel special you have to work on your self esteem , and to work on your self- esteem, you have to revisit the stories you have self obsorbed and think of them critically to rewrite them positively, and you will start to feel better about yourself."  In this episode we will learn how Ibrahim rewrote his story and how he overcame self-esteem issues due to someone telling him he was no good as a writer.  Just like Ibrahim, we can learn how to not take comments and criticism personal and learn how to rewrite the stories in our heads instead to serve as an instrument that can align us with our dreams and purpose.
