His message of giving youth sports back to the kids is weaved all through out our conversation. We discuss coaching eduction, athlete development, and the fact that these issues aren't localized. This week on the Digest a hockey coaching conversation with the Head Coach of the Western Hockey League's Prince Albert Raiders Marc Habscheid. Marc had an NHL career as a player, but soon realized that his future was going to be as a coach. We chat about that realization and how that impacted him while he was still playing. Marc has coached in the WHL, NHL, and was the one of the last full time head coaches of Team Canada's men's team and shares his perspective on how players have evolved and changed. We also discuss the importance of mistakes and how we can't fear them.

This week on the Digest we download ourselves into the use of video as a coaching tool. Technology readily makes available to anyone the same opportunity to use video as professional coaches do. One of those coaches is Jamie Pringle of the Calgary Flames who is our guest to discuss the best ways for video to help kids and volunteer coaches. A father himself, Jamie has spent most of his adult life adapting technology to hockey to benefit the players and teams that he works with. In our conversation we touch on what is really important when using video as a teaching tool. A hint, more is always better!

You might remember that last spring we introduced you to a really cool organization making a difference all around the world through the beautiful game. In Episode #11 of the Digest Brian Suskiewicz, the Chief Executive Strategist, of Coaches Across Continents joined us to discuss how they are using soccer to affect social change. In Canada it is called Sledge Hockey while in the United States it is referred to as Sled Hockey. Each year the best in the world compete at the World Championships and every 4 years the elite battle it out at the Paralympics. Our guest on this podcast is the head coach of Team Canada's Sledge team Ken Babey. Our conversation is wide ranging about coaching this brand of hockey, to skill development, recruitment, and style of play.
