Thanksgiving morning, 2010. While families across Augusta, Georgia were waking up to prepare holiday meals, two young women were found shot to death in a wooded area near downtown.

Nancy “Nicole” Cushman was just 17 years old.

Angela “Angie” Brooks was 19 — a young mother with her whole life ahead of her.

Their bodies were discovered side by side, killed execution-style. The hours leading up to their deaths remain unclear. The person responsible has never been identified.

In this episode of Their Stories to Tale, we walk through the final night Nancy and Angela were seen alive, the chilling crime scene, the investigation that stalled, and the silence that allowed this case to go cold. We also honor who these young women were beyond the headlines — daughters, friends, and loved ones whose lives mattered.

Fourteen years later, their families are still waiting for answers.

Whispers in the Wind: Remembering Porcha, Rita, Da’Wan, and Paige

In today’s powerful episode of Their Stories To Tale ," we explore the haunting stories of four remarkable Black women—Porcha King McZeal, Rita Shaw, Da’Wan Shaw-Gibson, and Paige Coffey—who vanished without a trace, their lives overshadowed by indifference and silence. Each of these women had dreams, aspirations, and a unique essence that made them who they were, yet their stories have become mere whispers in the wind, urging us to remember them.

Porcha, a beacon of light in her Houston community, disappeared in June 2023, leaving her family in despair as they searched for answers. Rita, a gentle spirit from New Orleans, vanished in April 2011, her loved ones left to piece together the fragments of her last moments. Da’Wan, known for her warmth and kindness, went missing in Hinesville, Georgia, in September 2004, her absence casting a heavy cloud over her family. Lastly, Paige, an artistic soul from Cleveland, disappeared in May 2019, her vibrant colors fading into the background as her family desperately sought her return.

Through their stories, we highlight a greater societal issue, reminding us that these women’s lives mattered and that we must address the inequities faced by Black women and girls. As we reflect on their lives and the impact of their absence, let us commit to honoring their memories, empowering their families, and ensuring their voices are not lost to time.

In the dimly lit courtroom, the air was thick with tension and anticipation. All eyes were on Joseph Tejeda as he stood before the judge, the gravity of his crimes pressing down on him. With a somber expression, Tejeda pleaded guilty to murder, burglary with intent to commit aggravated robbery, and assault on a public servant. The plea deal offered a combined sentence of 25 years for murder, 20 years for burglary, and 20 years for assault, to be served concurrently. Factoring in time already served, Tejeda faced the prospect of 18 more years behind bars.

It was a chilly February in 2021 when the world of Nyeisha Nelson’s loved ones was turned upside down. The 20-year-old mother was last seen on February 11, dropping her daughter off at a school in Crescent City, Florida. The routine drop-off seemed ordinary, but when Nyeisha didn’t return to pick up her little girl that afternoon, her family’s worry began to grow.

Once upon a time in St. Louis, Missouri, there was a young woman named Letitia Regans. Letitia, known to her friends and family as Nuchelle, was a vibrant 29-year-old with dark braided hair, a petite frame, and a distinctive tattoo of the name “Lonnie” on the left side of her neck. She was last seen on October 17, 2006, but after that day, she seemed to vanish without a trace. #missing #blackgirlnews #news
