Matthew 14:13-18 shows us an interesting way that the disciples assessed the situation and then petitioned Jesus. They saw the reality of a situation and then told Jesus what to do. Does Jesus need our instructions and a list for how to work through a situation? How should we approach him in prayer?

In Matthew 13:47-50, Jesus talks about a coming judgment where the evil and the righteous will be separated and judged. This parable, inadvertently strikes at the heart of our cultural elevation of self-perception and autonomy. Who, then, is really righteous and who is really evil?

Why does Matthew include a similar parable with a similar explanation from Jesus in Matthew 13:47-40 (see also Matt 13:36-43)? Is it redundant or purposeful? Does repetition mean anything in the Bible? Matthew's repeating of a similar explanation by Jesus is meant to point us toward the importance of the message Jesus was communicating.
