Jesus continues his discourse on prayer. He previously spoke about faith and sincerity filled prayers, and today he tells us why.

Today's passage shows Jesus continuing his message against self-glorification. He also transitions to the issue of being sincere in our prayers.

Jesus continues his sermon against glorifying one's self by looking at prayer. One should not parade their piety as it draws attention away from God.

Today's passage fits perfectly with verses one and two. Jesus tells us to avoid self-glorification. Our faith should be a living faith that seeks to glorify God rather than ourselves.

In today's passage we see Jesus warning us against self glorification. He uses the example of giving. If you give to someone in need don't announce it to the world.

We are nearing he completion of Matthew chapter five. Today we see the continuation of Christ's standard to love our enemies. He calls us to a high standard of conduct.
