Today we get into the beatitudes. Today we read about Jesus sayings that the poor in spirit and those who mourn are blessed.

Today we a see a shift from Jesus's preparation to the period of his public ministry. He marks that with the strong command to repent.

In today's passage we see another fulfillment of Old Testament pophecy regarding the Messiah. This time Matthew links Jesus with Isaiah 9:1-2.
