The BHEC Quadrennial Review Townhall meetings are all 4 in the books now and the LPC edition was perhaps the best attended and for sure saw the most comments from attendees. If you didn't attend the meeting then this post-Townhall discussion will give you a good flavor for the overall tone and what was said. One of the key elements in the system of systems that makes up our counseling profession is something that Professor Chuck Romig and others call, "Conscience Protections". That's a $3 term for protecting your religious liberties with a specific eye towards your rights as an American Citizen not to have to check your rights and beliefs at the counseling door. The Christians are the usual target but this is not a Christian only issue. We've had conversations with counselors who don't believe anything that runs contrary to their education 20 years ago is being taught to the next-gen of counselors. We know that not to be the case and today we're talking to a current grad student who will relay her experiences in sufficient detail to put that vacant argument to rest.

We're calling her "Courtney" and we're not going to mention her school because she's trying to graduate so she can enter the real world and speak her mind! This would be a very good "word of encouragement" to put in front of any future counselor student you may know who's wrestling with the same problem.

The inevitable lawsuits by the recipients of ill-advised gender surgeries are well underway. In this episode, Kathleen has invited Minneapolis attorney Daniel Cragg to discuss the current climate for these lawsuits and the challenges they face. Winning them is one thing but finding clients before it's too late is one of the biggest hurdles. There's more but you'll have to listen to find out!
