Episode 10: 7257 East South B Street
Truth or Consequences, New Mexico.
A desert town with a strange name and, for years, a secret buried behind the rusted walls of a trailer on East South B Street.
In the late 1990s, that trailer became known as the “Toy Box” — a fully equipped torture chamber designed by David Parker Ray, a self-styled sadist who abducted, drugged, and tortured dozens of women over the course of nearly two decades.
Ray didn’t just commit violence. He built a system around it. He created an audio tape — 45 minutes of calm, instructive commands — that he played for victims as they woke up in restraints, beneath a mirror, with no idea where they were or how they got there. His crimes were carried out with mechanical precision, psychological control, and the chilling participation of his girlfriend, Cindy Hendy.
This episode traces Ray’s early life and fantasies, the layout of the infamous trailer, the survival and daring escape of Cynthia Vigil, and the disturbing catalog of evidence that was uncovered when police raided the home. We also explore the psychological profile of Ray, the trauma of his victims, the unanswered questions about how many women may have died — and why none of their bodies were ever found.
No one knows exactly how many lives were destroyed inside the walls of that trailer.
Ray was sentenced to 224 years, but died just three years into his prison term.
He never confessed.
He never revealed where the bodies were.
And that leaves the question haunting the desert still:
Was the Toy Box ever truly closed?
