Hannah Breazeale has served as a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer for HBU Football and Women’s Soccer and has earned her Master of Education at HBU as well. Before coming to the University, Hannah earned a BS in Athletic Training from Louisiana State University where she was named a Doc Broussard Athletic Training Student of the Year.

Devonyae Pearson has majored in Marketing and Minored in Psychology at HBU. As a student, she’s been in the HBU Honors College, and has been involved on campus as a Resident Assistant, the VP of Records for the Student Government Association, and as an Executive Member of the Student Programming Board. She has also helped the Admissions department by being a Summer GO Leader and a CHAT Team Lead.

Evelyn Azalia Portillo-Recinos completed a bachelor’s degree at HBU with a double major in Education (bilingual generalist (Spanish) EC-6), and Interdisciplinary Studies. She has worked as a bilingual teacher for Alief ISD for 10 years. Evelyn returned to HBU to earn her Master of Education; she is becoming a reading specialist and obtaining training in dyslexia through the Neuhaus Program that HBU offers in the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences.

Kris Bagley ’06 majored in Mass Media and Speech Communication as an HBU student. He was the sports editor for The Collegian and worked with the HBU TV studio as a student. He worked as a sports editor for the El Campo Leader-News before studying at Asbury Theological Seminary in Kentucky. Kris now serves as the lead pastor of Dayspring Methodist church in Tyler.

Dr. Angie Durand is an Associate Professor in the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences. Her background includes teaching kindergarten in both public and private school settings, being in school administration, and helping prepare teachers as a university professor. She began working at HBU in 2011, and initiated the Neuhaus Education collaboration in 2016.  

 

Michael Basquez ’21, majored in Psychology and minored in Studio Art while at HBU. The Spring, Texas native came to HBU as a first-generation college student. In addition to working on campus, his involvements included being the Student Government Association President, a First-Year Experience Intern, and participation in the Freshman Council, Summer Launch Program, Student Foundation, the Hispanic Student Organization, and the Christians for Israel Association.

Joel Stanulonis is Assistant Professor of Art in the department of Visual Art at Houston Baptist University. He received his BFA from HBU in 2012 and earned an MFA at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia. Joel specializes in classical representational painting and teaches studio courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels. In 2015, Joel received the national MFA feature from New American Painting Magazine, and was twice a finalist for the Hunting Art Prize. His work is in the permanent collection of the PAFA museum in Philadelphia and in private collections around the US.

Brianna Romero majored in psychology and is graduating in May 2021. At HBU, Brianna has been involved with Life Tree Ministries (an apartment ministry), has been a Young Life high school leader, and has worked as an events intern in the Department of Events & Conferences. She plans to earn a master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology. 

David Fresch graduated from HBU with degrees in Mass Media and Computer Information Systems Management in 2003; his wife, Scottie, graduated from HBU the same year. David went on to graduate from Fuller Theological Seminary. His family lives in Norway; David serves as Senior Pastor of North Sea Baptist Church, Executive Director of the Missional International Church Network, President of Fresch Ministries International, and Director of Empowering Leaders (and Executive Leadership Team member) for the International Baptist Convention. 

Dr. Lisa Ellis is an Associate Professor of Biology in the College of Science and Engineering. She teaches a variety of Biology courses and is actively involved across campus, including admissions, athletics, First-Year Experience and FYS, QEP, TRiO, and the Institutional Review Board. Before joining the HBU faculty in 2014, Dr. Ellis was at Texas A&M University where she earned her PhD and was a postdoctoral fellow and an instructor.
