Mindsets! Populated by the Psychologist Carol Dweck, it is said that we have two types - A Fixed Mindset were put simply it relates to having a fixed perception of level of abilities , believing that you can't get any better than your current level. And A Growth Mindset - which is the opposite, believing that your current level of performance has the ability to improve. In this weeks episode KC and I discuss those Mindsets in line with our experiences.

Peter "Dale" Wimbrow Sr. wrote the poem "The Guy in the Glass in 1934. It was published in the American magazine at that time and the copyright was assigned to our father. The poem has become also known, incorrectly, as "The Man in the Glass" or sometimes, "The Man in the Mirror", but the thought is the same, the message clear...'you can fool the whole world down the pathway of years, but you can't fool the guy staring back from the glass'
In this 'surprise episode' I recite the poem whilst adding some explanations that others might not be aware of. At only 5 mins long, it's a quick, short, sharp burst of wisdom!

The past is just a memory, the future is just a dream, if the clock told the truth it would just say NOW!. Taking inspiration from a prisoner on death row, which where I first heard the aforementioned short poem, to takeaway messages from the book by Dan and Chop Heath, The Power of Moments, being present is a topic I have been thinking quite deeply about recently. What does it mean to be present? Can it exist? etc. This week I discuss my journal entry in relation to the 'being present' debate after firstly being introduced to Panaetius, known as the Stoic Connector.

Both Darran and I originally released this episode as part of the Changemakers NI project and recently spoke about the need to bring it to a larger audience in the hope that it might help inspire others to speak up. We have therefore, re-released the episode as part of a joint venture with MiND (Mental Health in a New Direction) Podcast, hosted by Darran. In this episode, Darran and I speak about our own experiences with grief, our actions, thoughts, feelings and emotions. This full episode is based upon our own lived through experiences and is in no way designed to tell you how you should grieve.
If you have been affected by anything we've mentioned in this episode or feel that you want to seek help and support with your own grief, there are a a number of organisations that can help:

This week Gareth and I begin our exploration of the 12 elements of the BACKBONE performance support programme, by discussing the importance of Health and Lifestyle. More specifically, Gareth focuses on the thoughts that drive actions as we touch on 'why diets fail' and how having a purpose can help you push through the tough times.

In a break from the normal structure, this week I've decided to combine two days worth of reflections as both seemed relevant, with a focus on role models. It was Goethe who once said "Show me with whom you consort and I will tell you who you are" - Jim Rohn's widely quoted mine is " You are the average of the five people you spend most time with" - Consciously consider whom you allow in your life - not like some snobby elitist, but like someone who is trying to cultivate the best life possible.
Like most young boys, Michael grew up wanting to be a professional footballer, tirelessly playing in the streets with his mates before joining his school team and then entering club Football. It was a pursuit that would take him to England over a four year period, until one day he had enough and returned home. It was then when things didn't go to plan. Though throughout his life, Michael has always kept with him a strong determination to keep going, that coupled with a vivid memory of his most Signiant life events has lead him to writing and content creation.
Michael is the founder and content creator of Men of Aspirations, a published author with the good men project in New York and is putting the finishing touches to a book of his life stories.

A phrase that keeps popping up in my reflections and journal entries, so much so, this week I decided to delve a little deeper. Taking inspiration from The Daily Stoic and it's counterpart The Daily Stoic Journal, I attempt to break down my journal entry, we also meet Antipater, the next leader of the Stoa as we continue our journey into the main players of the Stoic Philosophy. We also hear from Jonny Lowe, as he shares his experiences of Stoicism.
