You may be wondering, what happens at the hospital? Will you have time alone with your baby? Will the adoptive parents be there? These are all common things to question, and in this episode, we walk you through what plans you should be making, who should be included in those plans, and how to have the hospital stay you're envisioning.
Usually, the adoptive parents have an attorney but the expectant parent doesn’t. We want to change that! Oftentimes, the expectant parent is usually advised about the law that governs her adoption by a social worker, or worse yet, by the attorney who represents the adoptive parents. While it may be true that the adoptive parents and expectant mother are working together toward a common goal, their legal rights and responsibilities are actually very different. Tune into this episode to learn why it's imperative that you have separate legal representation in the adoption process.
What is open adoption, what does it actually mean, and how will it work after my baby is born? Am I at risk for the adoptive parents to stop communicating with me after the baby is born? What extra steps can I take to keep contact open after the adoption, and is this legally binding in my state? Join us as we answer all of your questions about open adoption.
What kind of adoption professional should you work with? How do you know who to trust? In this Thinking About Adoption episode, we break down how to choose an adoption professional, and what questions you should be asking them to ensure you and your child are protected in the process.
Don’t be afraid to ask adoptive parents some tough questions before choosing a family. After all, your choice of an adoptive family is one of the most important you’ll ever make. Here are some of the questions we think are the most important.
Join us as we dive into the specifics of what each expectant mom considering adoption needs to know but won’t find online. In this episode, we break down the most important aspects of choosing an adoptive family: what questions you should be asking, how to list out your top priorities, and where to look for a family that is home-study approved.
Introducing a new podcast just for expectant moms, hosted by AdoptMatch. Join Attorney Celeste Liversidge and birth mom and Policy Director Kelsey Vander Vliet Ranyard as they inform, educate, and tell the truth about domestic adoption. We started Thinking About Adoption in partnership with AdoptMatch in order to build a community of ethical adoption professionals - adoption agencies and adoption attorneys who make sure that every expectant mom is informed, treated with respect, and supported in each adoption they handle. We want to preserve adoption as a safe and accessible option for women facing an unintended pregnancy. We can and must do better when it comes to protecting expectant parents, adoptive parents, and most importantly, adoptees whose lives are impacted by domestic adoption.
