  • TOTLB S108 Michael Rooker

Sometimes comic con’s bear out some very fruitful content for us. Denver Fan Expo 2021 was a little slower than normal because it was a “special edition” and not a full blown comic con, BUT like always, we have gotten some awesome content! That brings us to today’s special interview. We’ve spoken about many of the projects that Michael Rooker has been involved with, and this interview was truly a privilege for us!

“Michael Rooker (born April 6, 1955) is an American actor known for his roles as Henry in Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer (1986), Chick Gandil in Eight Men Out (1988), Terry Cruger in Sea of Love (1989), Rowdy Burns in Days of Thunder (1990), Bill Broussard in JFK (1991), Hal Tucker in Cliffhanger (1993), Jared Svenning in Mallrats (1995), Detective Howard Cheney in The Bone Collector (1999), Grant Grant in Slither (2006), Merle Dixon in AMC‘s The Walking Dead (2010–2013), Yondu Udonta in Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), its sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017), and the animated series What If…? (2021). He also played Savant in The Suicide Squad (2021).”

We spoke to him about many of the projects that he has completed in his illustrious career, as well as some of the things that he has upcoming. For someone who has been in the entertainment industry for so long, Rooker is STILL a prolific actor, with a ton of different projects upcoming! Of course, our team would love to see him in blue paint sometime in the future. Yes, we know it’ll be tough because of how his last scene went, but it’s the MCU, anything can happen.

  • TOTLB 371 Jurassic Park

It’s hard to have the same magic as you remembered when you first saw our pop culture classic for today!! I mean the mystique, and the excitement for seeing dinosaurs for the first time on the screen that actually looked great! It was the first time that people thought that dinosaurs could actually be real. And we have Jurassic Park to thank for that!

“In Steven Spielberg‘s massive blockbuster, paleontologists Alan Grant (Sam Neill) and Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern) and mathematician Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) are among a select group chosen to tour an island theme park populated by dinosaurs created from prehistoric DNA. While the park’s mastermind, billionaire John Hammond (Richard Attenborough), assures everyone that the facility is safe, they find out otherwise when various ferocious predators break free and go on the hunt.”

Jurassic Park was a monumental achievement. Watching Grant & Sattler fighting dinosaurs through a whole park, and not be cheesy was an absolutely giant accomplishment. This film had HUGE ramifications for dinosaur movies, and has a big place in movie history. This might be one of the few movies, that most will say is better than the novel that it was created from. If you’ve been on Mars or somehow just haven’t watched it, NOW is the time to do so!

  • TOTLB 370 Hawkeye

One of the least appreciated Avengers got his own TV show on Disney +! With all the other high profile TV shows that started streaming before it, and the litany of shows that are debuting in the future, we aren’t quite sure what everyone was going to think of Hawkeye!

“The Hawkeye series picks up on plot threads set up by Avengers: Endgame, which saw Clint Barton lose his wife and children in the snap and adopt the persona of murderous vigilante, Ronin.”

Clint has FINALLY gotten what we think he wants, is a life of peace and quiet, to spend with his family. They’re on a vacation and are out and about just living the family life when Clint is brought back into the fold because of Kate Bishop. Kate pretty much always seems like she’s up to no good, and seems to have a mom who pretends to care, but doesn’t seem to be there enough for her daughter. Kate accidentally picks up the Ronin outfit during a job she is doing, and all hell breaks loose at the mere through about the return of Ronin. Now Clint has to try and clear Kate’s name, while keeping his involvement as Ronin under wraps. The season finale promises to setup something huge for this universe!

  • TOTLB S107 James Powell

Back to the grind with another interview from James Powell!! We spoke to James while we were at Denver Fan Expo. Fan Expo 2021 was a little light on content, but it was a good time none the less, and it was great, the time that we were able to speak with James about his content!

“I’ve always been interested in stories. When I was a kid, I’d spend entire days reading Edgar Rice Burroughs novels in my mom’s oversize and incredibly uncomfortable living room chair. When I wasn’t reading, I’d use my Star Wars and G.I. Joe action figures to act out my imagination, or I’d create my own comics on notebook paper.”

Listen to James tell us about how he got into the comic book industry, and his love for comic books in general. Also, he tells about why he chose the genre that he generally sticks to. Gabe and James talk a lot about House of Fear!

  • TOTLB 368 Eternals

Alright everyone, it’s time to go outside of the normal MCU, but still within it of course! The Marvel Cinematic Universe is starting to get bigger and bigger, and is starting to explore the outer most parts of the universe. What that means for the universe at large is still just theories, but were’ excited to be talking about Eternals!!

“The Eternals, a race of immortal beings with superhuman powers who have secretly lived on Earth for thousands of years, reunite to battle the evil Deviants.”

This is the story of the “team,” the Eternals. A family who is on Earth, in order to make sure that the Deviants don’t come back, and destroy their homes. So, it’s time to get the family back together to come up with a plan to stop them! • TOTLB 367 Tron Legacy

Not only is our topic today a pop culture classic, but so is the original movie that this spawned from. Tron and Tron Legacy both deserve a spot on anybody’s list of pop culture classics. While they may not be the “best” movies in the genre, they represent something that is not seem too much in mainstream movies anymore, and that is art. Both movies take the time to not only try and be entertaining and tell a good story, but they also do they’re best to be appealing to the eyes, with some awesome graphics!

“Sam (Garrett Hedlund), the son of famous video-game developer Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges), has been haunted for a long time by his father’s mysterious disappearance. A strange signal draws Sam to Flynn’s Arcade, and he is pulled into the same cyberworld in which his father, its creator, has been trapped for 20 years. With fearless warrior Quorra (Olivia Wilde), Kevin and Sam seek to escape from a universe that, while magnificent, is far more advanced and dangerous than Kevin had ever imagined.”

This sequel tells a linear story from the original, and follows Kevin’s son, Sam, into the world of Tron. Sam has been troubled ever since the disappearance of his dad, and is on the verge of losing the whole company that his father started. While searching for his father, he enters the world of Tron, and is charged with defeating a familiar face, and bringing with him, a unicorn, back to the “real” world!

  • TOTLB 366 Arcane

We’re going into a genre that we generally don’t talk about, but that I think we all think very kindly of!! We’re talking about anime today!! Although the ending of the first season makes it so that there almost has to be a second season, and it feels like you have to know at least a little bit about the established world of the video games, the art and the music in this series are absolutely fantastic! We’re talking about the Netflix series, Arcane!

“A pair of estranged sisters find themselves on opposing sides of a violent feud between rival kingdoms in Arcane, Netflix’s new animated series which serves as a prequel to the hugely popular online battle arena video game League of Legends.”

This is essentially a story filled with a lot of parables when it comes to classism. It’s the tale of two different “worlds.” One group of people who live on the surface, and one group of people who live below the surface, who don’t conform to the rules of what they would call “normal society.” What happens when the villain of the story who lives below, tries to take over everything, with his new partner in crime?
