  • TOTLB 355 Ghostbusters

Are you afraid of ghosts? I ain’t afraid of no ghosts!! It’s pop culture classic time, and we’re going all the way back to 1984!! It’s the first of a few sequels, with another one coming out November 2021! We are of course talking about the original Ghostbusters film, starring Bill Murray Dan Akroyd, Harold Ramis, Rick Moranis, and Sigourney Weaver!!

“After the members of a team of scientists (Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray) lose their cushy positions at a university in New York City, they decide to become “ghostbusters” to wage a high-tech battle with the supernatural for money. They stumble upon a gateway to another dimension, a doorway that will release evil upon the city. The Ghostbusters must now save New York from complete destruction.”

With such a rock star cast, how could this have been a flop? Do you remember the first time you saw this stellar cast on the big screen? Do you think that this leans a lot more towards it’s comedy side, than it’s more spooky side, and if you do, does that really make a difference at all? Either way, if you have not seen this movie yet, there is something going on in your life, but also, it’s time for you to find that VHS, and give it a big watch!

  • TOTLB 352 What We Do In The Shadows S3

It is VERY hard to take a subject matter that would normally be outside of a specific genre, and turn it into something comedic, that is done very well! Vampires, generally, tend to be something that is stuffed into the horror genre, and doesn’t normally break itself out of that genre. BUT, every once in a while, there is something that changes that! That something, for today, is the vampire series, What We Do In The Shadows!

“Set in Staten Island, What We Do in the Shadows follows the lives of three traditional vampires, Nandor, Laszlo, and Nadja; Colin Robinson, an energy vampire; and Guillermo, Nandor’s familiar. The series revolves around the centuries-old vampires interacting with the modern world and other supernatural beings.”

This series is VERY over the top! Think The Office, but with Vampires & Werewolves! There’s very few actual shows that make the watchers laugh almost all the way through, and I think What We Do In The Shadows achieves that in almost every episode!! Specifically, we are speaking about season three, when Guillermo has eliminated a lot of the Vampiric Council, with Nandor and Nadja being promoted to the leadership!

  • TOTLB 351 IT the Series

Time to go back in…………..time, for our pop culture classic episode!! We’re going back thirty one years, to 1990, and we’re here to talk about one of Stephen King‘s original projects, that was put on the small screen. Starring Tim Curry, Harry Anderson, John Ritter, Tim Reid, and more! We’re of course talking about the original time that the being known as Pennywise graced our eyes, in the IT miniseries!

“In 1960, seven preteen outcasts fight an evil demon that poses as a child-killing clown. Thirty years later, they reunite to stop the demon once and for all when it returns to their hometown.”

The original was filmed as a miniseries and aired over the course of several nights, BUT, now I think that most people who are going to watch it, will just watch it in one sitting. The movie of course follows a group of children, into their adulthood, who are haunted by an evil benevolent creature, that most commonly goes by the name of Pennywise the Dancing Clown! Pennywise is some kind of alien creature that has lived on earth for a long time, and comes out roughly every twenty seven years, in order to feed. If you’ve only seen the remakes, and have not given yourself the opportunity to check out the original, this is a MUST watch. If only for Curry’s amazing performance as Pennywise!

  • TOTLB 350 Only Murders in the Building

When was the last time that you saw Martin Short and Steve Martin in a project together? The last time they were together for a project was for a Netflix special, An Evening You Will Forget for the Rest of Your Life! Now, they have a great relationship, and chemistry, and you wouldn’t think that adding Selena Gomez to the mix would add to that chemistry, but man, this is a great trio!! We are of course talking about the Hulu series, Only Murders in the Building!

“Only Murders in the Building follows three strangers, played by Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez, who share an obsession with a true crime podcast. After a murder in their building, the three neighbors decide to start their own show that covers their investigation of the murder.”

Only Murders in the Building, follows a trio of people who live in an apartment building, where a murder took place. All three friends have an affinity for podcasts, and in their mind, the next logical step, was to create a podcast that explored the murder in the building. The police of course think it was a suicide, and the three friends are setting out on not only debunking that theory, but also finding the murderer!

  • TOTLB 348 What If

Today’s topic is fun, because it looks into different scenarios that might have occurred in the MCU, had things taken just one or two steps in a different direction! There was even a comic book series that this originated from, and I think that many people have long waited for this series to come to fruition, in order to take an imaginative look at some of our favorite superheroes! We are of course, talking about the MCU series, What If….?

“What If…? is an American animated anthology series created by A.C. Bradley for the streaming service Disney+, based on the Marvel Comics series of the same name. … The series explores alternate timelines in the multiverse that show what would happen if major moments from the MCU films occurred differently.”

This series takes a different look at what happens if Doctor Strange takes things too far because of a broken heart, or if Black Panther was the earthling that was stolen from earth by Yondu, and of course explores the fun world of Marvel Zombies!! Nothing is really “cannon” but it’s always super fun to take a look at what might have happened if things were a little different in the MCU!

  • TOTLB 347 The Labyrinth

It’s that time of the week again, where we go back in time, in order to talk about a pop culture classic!! For this week’s episode, we’re going back thirty five years, to the year 1986, in order to talk about the David Bowie film, from the mind’s of Jim Henson & George Lucas, The Labyrinth.

“Teenage Sarah (Jennifer Connelly) journeys through a maze to recover her baby brother (Toby Froud) from a goblin king (David Bowie).”

Sarah accidentally gives her baby brother to the Goblin king, and needs to find her way through a labyrinth, in a certain amount of hours, in order to get her baby brother back safely! Along the way, she meets a bevy of weird/different creatures and characters. Two of which end up being close friends of hers, Hoggle & Ludo! How David Bowie was convinced to do this movie, we’ll never know, but it’s definitely intriguing enough, at least, to give it a watch! A couple of songs here and there make it a musical, and you know that you’re usually in for a good time, whenever you hear that Jim Henson has some kind of creations in the movie!

  • TOTLB 346 Y The Last Snake Eyes

This is a two for one special today!! We’re talking about two different subjects, since one of the topics we didn’t much care for, and the other only had a few episodes out at the time!! The first subject, is a prequel to the GI Joe series. It follows the most famous ninja from the franchise, and gives us a better look into the life of Snake Eyes!

“An ancient Japanese clan called the Arashikage welcomes tenacious loner Snake Eyes after he saves the life of their heir apparent. Upon arrival in Japan, the Arashikage teach him the ways of the ninja warrior while also providing him something he’s been longing for: a home. However, when secrets from Snake Eyes’ past are revealed, his honor and allegiance get tested — even if that means losing the trust of those closest to him.”

Our second subject is a show that caught us a little off guard, just by existing! We all new that this series was coming, but the release was a bit of a surprise for all of us. We didn’t know that Y: The Last Man, had released, until the third episode was already out. So, we’re here to talk about this show, on the back half of this episode!!

“A drama based on DC Comics’ acclaimed series by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra, Y: The Last Man traverses a post-apocalyptic world in which a cataclysmic event decimates every mammal with a Y chromosome but for one cisgender man and his pet monkey.”
