Thinking Outside The Long Box

Hello everyone!! The 58th episode comes straight to you from the hottest comic book store in Colorado, Hall of Justice Comics & Collectibles!

Our pick for this recording's #popcultureclassic is the 1989 comic book series, The Sandman from Vertigo Comics. It was written by Neil Gaiman and drawn by various different artists through its tenure. The story revolves around Morpheus, the lord of dreams, being captured, and his journey revolving around change. Two of us think VERY highly of the series, and one of us is confused. Who do you think is who?

In honor of our #popcultureclassic pick, we are having ourselves a little give away!! We are giving away TEN volumes of The Sandman!! The only thing that you have to do, in order to try and win this amazing set, is tell us why YOU deserve the set. You do this by making a video, and posting it to our Facebook page, OR leaving us a voicemail at 970-573-6148. Either way, tell us why YOU deserve to win this awesome gift!

No interviews in this episode, but as always, we bring you the latest and the greatest in the world of pop culture! Don't miss out on the opinions of some of the guys who were at the shop with us, and our always, ridiculous antics!

Hello everyone!! The 57th episode comes straight to you from the dungeon that Gabe calls his basement!

Our pick for this recording's #popcultureclassic is the 2002 comic book, Y: The Last Man. It was written by Brian K. Vaughan and drawn by Pia Guerra. The story revolves around a virus, illness, or some agent, that destroys any male mammal on earth! Yorick brown, and his monkey, are the only 2 surviving males, and the story follows their attempts to figure out what happened! I think both Gabe and Juan (and Jon, but he wasn't there) have a favorable few of this book! Juan even finished the whole series!

Two interviews coming to you in this episode. The first comes from Stefano Terry, about his book, The Gamma Gals, coming out of Fanbase Press.  This is a 4 issue digital comic book, featuring three D&D fans, who wake up from a gamma-irradiated storm, to find out that they all have special powers! Stefano tells us the origin story of this book, and some of the reasons he decided to create it. Some of which, happens to be "representation." He tells us about wanting the book to be diverse, and not just the same types of characters we have seen forever! Great guy, great story, great interview!

Our second interview is with local creator, Joe Vallen! He is the writer for various books, but our focus for this interview was, The Adventures of Jesus and Frankenstein. Joe tells us about how this odd couple comes to be, and exactly what kind of adventures they are taking us on. Joe keeps himself busy by working on this, and MANY other titles, and is a big advocate for pushing the comic community forward. Hear him talk about how he does that in his professional life, aside from creating,  but also match making. You'll like this interview, Joe has some great insights into the business!

Remember, you can ALWAYS let us know what you think! We can only think of so many things to talk about every other week, and would LOVE to get some feedback and ideas from all of you out there who are listening!! Hello everyone!! The 56th episode comes straight to you from the hallowed walls of Hall of Justice Comics & Collectibles!

Special guests Michael, and Doyle, join us for most of the show! Michael FINALLY gives us insight into his midget porn obsession, and Doyle gives his opinions on some of the items that we are speaking about!

Our pick for this recording's #popcultureclassic is the 1987, Richard Donner movie, Lethal Weapon. This Mel Gibson, and Danny Glover movie, is a good refresher on buddy cop movies!! Tells the story of two cops who don't know each other, suddenly becoming partners! Nudity, action, and someone who is too old for this shit, what a great movie!

No interviews today, just all our normal amazing brand of humor! Listen to Gabe passively/aggressively reading a comic book on the show, and then go find the video on our facebook page!

Remember, you can ALWAYS let us know what you think! Hello everyone!! The 55th episode comes straight to you, with a little twist!!

We are JOINED through the whole show, by Clyde, and at the end, Sugartits, from the Old Still Radio Show!! We spend the WHOLE episode with Clyde talking about everything that makes us laugh! We both enjoy each others show, and so this is a PERFECT time for a crossover episode!! Clyde picks a few topics, and we let the hilarity ensue!

Our pick for this recording's #popcultureclassic is the 1987, Cheech Marin movie, Born in East LA. With everything that is going on in the world, we figured this would be the BEST time to introduce this movie to our #popcultureclassic segment. At a time when Cheech and Chong were not getting along, the world got this hilarious gem. It's all about a hispanic, American citizen, who accidentally gets deported, and tries to find his way back to the USA!! What a great movie, with great memories!

Also, the first of 2 amazing interviews comes from the 3 and Twenty band! They are a "hybrid country" band that I originally discovered on the Stone Cold Podcast! You'll find their music all throughout this episode. But, they tell us all about how they first started, and the VERY different sound that was coming from them, at the beginning. It's a band that will take you back to the old country days, with a little mix of rap. They tell us about their influences, and what their plans are, for moving forward. I've been listening to their stuff ever since I heard it!

Our 2nd interview comes from the toughest guy we've had on the show so far!! We bring you the President of the board, for the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame, "Cowboy" Johnny Mantell! It was an absolute pleasure to interview "Cowboy" Johnny Mantell. If you didn't know, we are HUGE, wrestling fans!! But, Johnny wasn't here to talk to us to much about himself, but more about the awesome, brick & mortar hall of fame, that he runs. The Professional Hall of Fame is located in Wichita Falls, Texas, and has some of the biggest/best names in wrestling, as members. We learn all about how it landed in Texas, and some of the items that are within its walls! What an awesome building, and we cannot wait to visit at some point!! It might literally be the biggest pieces of wrestling history, located all in one spot!

Remember, you can ALWAYS let us know what you think! We can only think of so many things to talk about every other week, and would LOVE to get some feedback and ideas from all of you out there who are listening!! You can send mp3s and email to our email address. Also, join the conversations on our Facebook Page and Twitter Page. Also, if you have good feedback, please leave it for us on iTunes and Stitcher!! Hello everyone!! The 54th episode of the Thinking Outside the Long Box podcast, comes to you directly from the amazing Gabe's basement!

We obviously bring you the best in news! We talk a little bit about Chris Hunt, who at the last show was nominated for a couple of IGN awards, and won best graphic novel during the recording of this episode! We talk a little bit about Constantine being picked up by CW Seed. Good idea? Bad idea?  Gabe and Juan come to the realization that the live action Justice League Dark is still in the works, and Jon schools them on that! On top of the entertainment news, Gabe also tells us about a terrible spill that he took on the ice! I promise, you'll want to hear the story, and see what he hurt!

Our pick for this recording's #popcultureclassic is the 1982, Wes Craven film, Swamp Thing! Of course there are 2 hosts who absolutely love this movie, and 1 host who is pretty indifferent to the movie! Listen, and you'll find out who is on what side of the fence!! I'll give you a hint, the two older men are the ones who absolutely love this movie!! The reason is because they are old, and love old things!! You'll also hear the announcement of the next #popcultureclassic, which is fitting for the times that we are in!

Remember, you can ALWAYS let us know what you think! We can only think of so many things to talk about every other week, and would LOVE to get some feedback and ideas from all of you out there who are listening!! It's that time of the year again!! Episode 53 is our YEAR END WRAP UP!!

We bring you our list of the best trailer, TV show, movie, and comic book of 2016!! Plus, for our "old man" picks, we took the clock back 20 years, and did the BEST (any part) of 1996!! WOW is this episode packed or what!?!? Not only do we give you our lists, but we also had a TON of feedback from our social media followers!! Going through their lists is always a fun adventure, and teaches the us about the different things that we are not in tune with!!

The first part of our conversation is dominated by our chat with IGN's Best Graphic Novel Award winner, Chris Hunt!! He not only gives us his 2016 list, but we also talk about everything that has happened since we first spoke to him about Carver. He was on Nerdist, he went out of the country, and he was temporarily homeless. His story is amazing, and hilarious, all at the same time!

We also had a small Christmas Story VS Christmas Vacation poll, and read all the results of that poll as well!! I don't think that there was a clear winner, but there are definitely staunch supporters of both great Christmas movies!

Before our #PopCultureClassic segment, we also have, probably the BEST interview we have ever done!! We interview the special effects legend, Robert Kurtzman! What a HUGE honor it was having Robert on the show!! He was with us to talk about a past #popcultureclassic, From Dusk Till Dawn! Of course we talk about his amazing career, which has included such titles as; Dune, Children of the Corn, From Dusk Till Dawn, Evil Dead 2, Tremors, Dances with Wolves, Pulp Fiction, and SO many more classics!! He is a genius at what he does, and we cannot thank him enough for the awesome interview!! Don't miss it!

For our #PopCultureClassics segment, of course we had to choose one of those Christmas movies. We ended up choosing the 1989 Chevy Chase movie, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation! It's a Christmas tradition for some of us, and a great time for all of us!! From the oblivious moves of Clark, to the insane moves of cousin Eddie, this movie is funny from start to finish!! You'll love hearing our fond memories of this Christmas classic!!

THE 52nd episode of the Thinking Outside the Long Box podcast, comes directly to you from where Gabe does all of his best work, his basement...........

Catch up with us a little bit this episode, as we talk for about an hour, before we actually get the show started!! We also talk about a project that we will be trying our hand at! We will be trying to take our act to Cuba, and make a kind of podcumentary on the art/comic scene, as well as the podcast/radio scene, in this different land! It'll be a longtime planning, but it's a goal of ours for the next year of so! We obviously talk entertainment, like the new Guardians trailer, the Mummy trailer, 7 to Eternity, Dead Man Dark Mansion, and a TON of other things!!

For our #PopCultureClassics segment, we talk about the John Carpenter movie, They Live! This Rowdy Roddy Piper movie came out in 1988!! All about aliens subliminally taking over the human race, with the help of human millionaires. Nada, and Frank, with the help of a group of rebels, have to find out how to see these aliens, and destroy them! You'll hear some cool facts about the movie, and our overall reactions to it as well! Sounds like we all have nothing but praise for this movie, and couldn't give it any more thumbs up!

Our 51st episode comes all the way from beautiful Parker Colorado, at THE Hall of Justice Comics & Collectibles.

With this 51st episode, brings our countdown to tattoo's! At 100 episodes, we will ALL be getting tattoo's to commeorate what should be, a 5 year podcast at the time!! No interviews for this show, so, it's back to our roots! Jon celebrate his 1 year anniversary of owning his comic book store the day before we recorded. So he goes in a little bit, on how that feels, and what it's like to own your own small business! Gabe and Juan saw Doctor Strange, and ruined it for Jon, who may or may not EVER go see it in the theater. We also talk about Gabe's LOVE for Emma Rios, and there is MUCHO laughs! We sound like teenage girls during this entire episode!!

For our #PopCultureClassics segment, we talk about The Rocky Horror Picture Show! This is a movie that we get into a little deeper, as Gabe and Jon really enjoy the movie, but Juan does not. We all discuss why, and it seems to get a little deep, which is the perfect conversation for this segment!! This also leads us to a discussion of the new version of this movie as well. Gabe is the only one of the three of us, who has seen in, but it seems to follow the original very closely! We obviously read the feedback from our listeners, which are a mixed back of like/dislike. It's quite a polarizing movie! Great conversation for this movie, and we were all glad to have watched it again!

ALL the way from beautiful Rocky Mountain Comic Con, we bring you the awesome 50th episode of the Thinking Outside the Long Box Podcast!! We are half way to our original goal, AND tattoo's!!

This is the first time that we have gathered since the infamous Walking Dead premier!! We talk about the two big deaths that happen, and how that will effect the loved ones going forward! Of course, Gabe, and Jon are still not caught up! We talk bout the standalone Wonder Woman movie, and the difference between the standalone movies cramming together a team up. There are issues in the Batman movie, AND issues in The Flash movie, and that is not boding well for the behind the scenes DC universe.

We have two AMAZING interviews for this show!! The first interview that you will hear comes from the hilarious Aris Alvarado!! Aris has done MANY different TV shows, and movies, but his most well known role has to be that of Caesar, in the Gilmore Girls TV show! He tells us the story of how he got the part of Caesar, when originally he was supposed to be a foreign exchange student!! We talk about so many other stories, and we also touch on the revival, which he is in as well!! The best thing about this interview is Aris is so upbeat, and has so much positive energy! The interview made our day, because he was such a humble dude!! This is what I hope for all actors to be like! Don't miss him, and the revival when it comes out on Thanksgiving!!

Our next interview comes from the creative team of Quince, from Fanbase Press! This comic book tells the story of a young lady, on the verge of her quinceanera, who also learns that she has gained super powers!! She has to navigate through a teenage life, at the same time as navigating through her newfound super powers! It's hard enough being a teenager........Listening to Kit, Emma, and Sebastian talk about this book is inspiring!! They talk about diversity in comics, and just in general, and how important that issue is! This comic book will also be available for sale in spanish, which is something different, and very important for a book like this! This team works perfect together, and you can definitely tell that they have a passion for each other, and a passion for what they do!!

We also have a quick interview from Mike Grell, on the show room floor! It's a short interview, but it's awesome. He tells us about Green Arrow, and a few other characters he had his hand in!!

For our #PopCultureClassics segment, we talk about the star packed movie, from Quentin Tarantino, From Dusk Till Dawn! Jon and Gabe tell us about some of the first times that they watched the movie, and why Jon's wife doesn't necessarily remember watching. It's pretty hilarious, you don't want to miss that! But, we also discuss the amazing star power that this movie has, and what other projects spawned after they were in this movie!! We also talk bout the plot, and how the movie is almost two seperate movies in one! This NSFW movie, is DEFINITELY a must watch if you like vampire movies!! It brings the gore, the sex, and the action that is perfect in this type of a movie!!

Remember, you can ALWAYS let us know what you think! We can only think of so many things to talk about every other week, and would LOVE to get some feedback and ideas from all of you out there who are listening!!
