  • Nick Richards for Josh Okogie trade analysis

I break down the Nick Richards for Josh Okogie trade for both the Suns and Hornets. Jusuf Nurkic was not involved, so I also present the type of trade I could see them getting for him if traded by the deadline. I did this live, so it wasn't 100% perfect but I think it went well.

    0:00 Intro

2:49 Suns savings from the trade
7:35 Suns $500 million payroll projection for next season

  • New Orleans Pelicans Trade Primer, Zion Williamson's Options, and Pelicans Future Outlook

The Pelicans are headed to the lottery for the fourth time in six seasons of the post-Anthony Davis era. Injuries have been the primary culprit, and they hit them the hardest this season. This time things will probably end differently. The unavailability has been too much, especially with Zion Williamson. His contract structure gives them an easy out, but moving on from him won't be that simple. They don't have to make any decisions on him or Brandon Ingram this season, but the clock is ticking.

    0:00 Intro

0:41 Pelicans disastrous season summary and payroll analysis
3:19 Zion Williamson's non-guaranteed contract structure and why that might mean his time in New Orleans is almost done
5:40 Williamson trade ideas and why they probably keep him through the
    end of this season
11:26 Pelicans future payroll issues and how Brandon Ingram and CJ
    McCollum could be cap casualties
13:35 Pelicans future outlook and why moving on from Williamson and Ingram isn't as easy as it sounds

  • Dorian Finney-Smith for D'Angelo Russell trade analysis + Lakers Trade Deadline Primer

Last night, it seemed like Dorian Finney-Smith was headed to Memphis. Instead, he's headed to the Lakers for three second-round picks. The Lakers have done a decent job at replenishing their wing depth since 2021 and have their most depth there in a while. I think they certainly upgraded their top lineup, but not sure if its enough to put them over the top in the West. Meanwhile, the Nets continue to build on their pile of draft picks. They have the most picks over the next seven drafts than anyone else.

    0:00 Intro

1:06 Lakers trade limitations and their post-trade cap outlook
2:46 Next targets for the Lakers
3:28 Remaining draft assets they can trade and why they're not trading
    for a star
4:33 Why the Lakers might not be able to get the type of guard they're
    looking for
6:15 Overall thoughts on acquiring Dorian Finney-Smith
    9:00 Nets cap perspective
    10:19 Cameron Johnson's trade candidacy
11:09 Why I don't think D'Angelo Russell is getting bought out

  • Sacramento Kings Trade Deadline Primer, De'Aaron Fox Trade Rumors, and Mike Brown Firing Thoughts

The Kings got a taste of success by making the playoffs in 2023 and the pressure has been on to build on that. They just fired Mike Brown in a move that was poorly received around the league. It seems like they're going to do something at the trade deadline if things don't improve. I'm just not sure there's a move that can help them. I think this team is

too fundamentally flawed, and I'm not sure they were ever even that good two years ago. They had insanely good health and took advantage of a weird bunched up Western Conference. They haven't been able to keep up since the West's hierarchy stabilized. Along with the recent De'Aaron Fox rumors, things could get very interesting in Sacramento soon.

    0:00 Intro

    1:07 Mike Brown firing thoughts
2:17 Leaguewide reaction on the firing
    3:11 De'Aaron Fox trade rumors
    5:14 Kings trade deadline objectives
5:54 What the Kings have to offer
8:41 How the Kings could acquire a max player like Zach LaVine
11:06 Acquiring a more affordable wing shooter like Cam Johnson

  • Zach LaVine to the Nuggets? How a trade would work under the salary cap and apron rules

Last night, The Athletic reported that the Nuggets have significant
interest in acquiring Zach LaVine. I remember reading a report 3 or 4
years ago about the Nuggets having interest in him then, but they didn't
want to part with Michael Porter Jr. at the time. Now it appears that
their stance has changed and they could be open to making this swap
happen. I go over multiple frameworks of what a trade could look like
and preview the Nuggets' long-term payroll if they bring in a third
    maximum player.

    0:00 Intro

0:28 Nuggets payroll structures and their trade restrictions as an apron
    team
1:39 The simplest Zach LaVine trade framework
2:11 How it would impact their payroll + how it could also apply to
    Brandon Ingram
3:15 How LaVine's trade bonus could make the deal bigger
5:11 How the Nuggets can make this work through the end of next season
6:27 Why it might not be teneble beyond 2026.
7:02 The case for keeping Michael Porter Jr.
8:30 Why I like it a little more for the Bulls

  • Dennis Schroder for De'Anthony Melton trade analysis + how the Warriors could still get Jimmy Butler

It is the eve of trade season and we already have two trades set to go down on December 15. The first significant domino to fall is the Nets agreeing to trade Dennis Schroder and a second-round pick to the Warriors for De'Anthony Melton and three second-round picks. That's on par with what they got for Royce O'Neale, and I'd expect a similar return for Dorian Finney-Smith. They now have 13 second-round picks along with their 15 first-round picks. The Warriors trade a good chunk of their remaining second-round picks to salvage the loss of Melton for the season, but we'll see if he can fit well in Steve Kerr's system. I also show how the Warriors could still acquire Jimmy Butler while being able to keep Schroder.

    0:00 Intro

    0:42 Warriors cap perspective
1:52 How the Warriors could still get Jimmy Butler without trading Dennis Schroder
3:14 Other hurdles the Warriors must clear to complete a Butler trade
4:08 The cost for the Warriors to get Schroder and what they could do if it doesn't work out
5:19 Nets draft pick count and cap perspective
7:38 Nets 2025 cap space update
8:36 Their outlook toward bottoming out for a top lottery pick

  • I examine the Jimmy Butler trade rumors

I wasn't totally sold on the Jimmy Butler trade rumors from over the

last summer. He was seeking a one-year extension and the Heat weren't
budging on it. Now several different reports are indicating that he may
truly be available. If the Heat still doesn't want to give him an
extension now, perhaps he has a better chance of securing one if traded.
I go over the three main teams he's been linked to and what it would
take for them to get a deal done.

  • 2024 NBA Offseason Review - Ep 4: Philadelphia 76ers

When it was reported that James Harden wanted out and that the Sixers weren't going to extend Tyrese Maxey last summer, it became obvious that they were going to pivot to cap space in 2024. They were limited in ways to significantly improve the roster with their payroll tied to their big signings back in 2019. It made a lot of sense to plan for 2024 cap space, especially with a lot of big money coming off the books and an opportunity to keep Maxey as well with his low cap hold. This wasn't the strongest free agent class in recent memory but the Sixers capitalized on getting some of the best players that were available to them. But did they raise their titles odds enough to fulfill their ultimate goal? And how will Paul George's contract look in the backend of it?This might be the most talented and fundamentally sound team the Sixers had since 2018-19.

    0:00 Intro

0:21 Sixers pre-July cap space projection
1:16 How they got up to $60 million to spend
2:35 How they implemented their cap space
3:35 The trick they used to give Caleb Martin more money through bonuses
4:56 The rest of the Sixers signings and what their roster projects to look like once they get to 14 players
5:36 Some wings they could target for their last two roster spots
6:13 KJ Martin's contract and how they could use it in a future trade

  • 2024 NBA Offseason Review - Ep 3: Dallas Mavericks and Golden State Warriors (Klay Thompson Trade)

Klay Thompson's time in Golden State was inevitably coming to an end after they tried bringing him off the bench. Understandably so, it's tough to make that transition after all the success he had with the Warriors. He needed a fresh start and will now get to reinvent himself as a great role player with the Mavericks. There may not be a better place for him to thrive than in Dallas playing with Luka Doncic. Although losing Thompson is tough for the organization, they could be better now as well since they can play their young players more. They have a deep roster now and are setting themselves up for a big trade down the line.

    0:00 Intro
