In the corporate world, and the world in general, there is constant pressure to be busy. We are inundated with (mostly) pointless tasks. My biggest challenge is around email and online meetings.

We need to make sure we are asking every day, and with every task, "is this truly important, and am I adding value?"

"Your job is not to plug the holes, your job is to steer the ship"

One of the bigest challenges I have faced is the desire to "do it myself". Delegation is hard at first. As you grow through your organization you are rewarded and promoted for your ability to "patch the holes". But there comes a point where your role is no longer to do the patching yourself, but to help others grow in their ability to patch the holes.

Our job as a leader is to give our team the opportunity to grow and learn.

We don’t have to solve every problem, we just need to make sure all the problems get solved.

After my hospital stay last week, I was physically spent and sore… I knew there was going to be a healing process for my body, and that I would be not 100% for a few weeks.  What I was NOT prepared for was my emotional/mental healing process that was (and still is) needing a similar time.

My message is simple. Give yourself permission to heal. You are allowed to feel some self-pity. Just don’t stay there…

I am very glad to be back, and very glad to be on my journey that gives me these insights..

So I have spent the last two days in the hospital, and it really brough home to me how grateful I am for many things in my life, and how some things that seem really important, fall away when faced with our own mortality.

One of my grandfather's favorite phrases "Bird of a Feather Flock Together".. He used to tell me that when talking about the importance of choosing friends.

The same is still true as I have grown up. Your circle is critically important. I have heard many times you will earn very similarly to the 5 people you hang out with most. Well, I'm here to tell you it is not just money… it is spirituality, education, etc..

In order for us to become great at anything, we first have to be terrible at it.. 

As I have watched my podcast following, for a long time, it was a very slow listenership.. But I kept at it, and now after 100+ episodes, I am finally seeing movement and people are starting to listen.

But it was being willing to not be great, to make mistakes, that allowed that to happen.

One of my favorite concepts in Physics is Entropy… It is the Second Law of Thermodynamics…

Any ordered isolated system will move towards chaos. And we, as humans, are an isolated system…

If you are not adding energy into any area of your life, it will move to chaos.  Don't exercise? (Energy into physical body) Your body will become flabby and sick (chaos).

The same concept applies to all 9 areas of life balance.
