Daniel Strauss (Curb Your Enthusiasm, Second City) believes in combining Journey and Bon Jovi into one band. We talk about God as a loving creator, sitting shiva, and the ten minutes he got to spend with his wife in a room full of food right after they got married and before their reception.
If you want more Daniel, check out his full episode at patreon.com/davemaher. It includes more rapid-fire prompts in his intro and his "What's Your Coma?" segment, where he talks in depth about how his kids have rearranged his life.

Udbhav Gupta makes beautiful, mysterious, danceable music with Mr Twin Sister. He talks to me about recognizing cycles of depression, trying to outsmart the religion of your childhood, and a surreal and revelatory walk he took in a pitch-black Olympic National Park.
If you want more Udbhav, check out his full episode at patreon.com/davemaher. It includes a hugely expanded intro (we've known each other since 8th grade, so we chat a while) and his "Kill 1 Thing" segment.

Sobriety doesn't stop standup and comic book artist Whitney Wasson (Sober Rabbit) from wanting heaven to be a cool house party with performances from Elliott Smith whenever HE feels comfortable. Whitney is a sensitive, funny, deep-thinking artist, and this conversation is full of gems about addiction, relationships, art, expectations, mental illness, and more and more and more.
If you want more Whitney, check out their full episode at patreon.com/davemaher. It includes expanded intro and "Relive 1 Memory" segments, plus their "Kill 1 Thing."

Arish Singh (The Onion) performs standup with serious political bite, which makes his introspective and vulnerable turn here surprising and sweet. We talk a lot about depression, the need to hold separate funerals for your friends vs. family, and finally throwing off the shackles of societal and familial expectation to live the life you want.
If you want more Arish, check out his full episode at patreon.com/davemaher. It includes a well-expanded version of the intro plus his "Kill 1 Thing" segment.

A lot of people talk about wanting their funeral to be a celebration of life, but Sky Cubacub (Rebirth Garments) has thought concretely about what that looks like. Sky's experienced a lot of death recently, and rebirth is a foundational concept in their work.
We talk about reimagining every facet of life and the struggles that came AFTER Sky's rebirthing ceremony. We also geek out over Dialectical Behavior Therapy.
Content warning: Sky and I talk a fair amount about suicidal ideation and other mental illness stuff in this episode.
If you want more Sky, check out their full episode at patreon.com/davemaher. It includes expanded versions of almost every segment, plus their "Relive 1 Memory" and "Kill 1 Thing" segments.

Carmen Christopher (Shrill, Joe Pera Talks with You) is one of the funniest dudes around, and we bust balls while talking about visiting the Caribbean as a ghost, smoking cigarette butts off the ground as a 4th grader, and the elusive pursuit of go-chill balance.
If you want more Carmen, check out his full episode at patreon.com/davemaher. It includes his "Funeral Planning" and "Kill 1 Thing" segments, plus a separate intro segment.

Al Church (incredible musician) talks about sharing not just a home city but a birthday with Prince, we parse out our relationships to astrology, and I ask him the most annoying question a musician can get: "What kind of music do you play?"
We also talk about the ways in which life narratives aren't clean and how a single comment made to him as a kid serves as a touchstone for the kind of life he wants to live, twenty years later.
If you want more Al Church, check out his full episode at patreon.com/davemaher. It includes his "Funeral Planning," "Kill 1 Thing," and "Relive 1 Memory" segments, plus an extended version of the intro.

Untitled Queen (NightGowns on Quibi) creates mysterious, poetic, and beautiful drag performances that tell stories through mediums from visual art to spoken word. She's the kind of deep, sensitive, imaginative guest I love having on the show. Enjoy her gleeful relivings of breakups, baby stroller rides, and her earliest drag days.
If you want more of Untitled Queen's charm, you must check out her full episode at patreon.com/davemaher. It includes her "Kill 1 Thing" segment and an extended version of the artistic inspiration conversation at the end of her "Funeral Planning" segment.

Zack Seward (Managing Editor, CoinDesk) has been my best friend since we were college roommates. We veer away from his day job to talk about his relationship, family, and career transformations. Plus, he names the Band song he wrote in his will to be played at his funeral.
Zack's full episode includes his "Kill 1 Thing" segment, in which the two of us bitch about journalistic tics that bug us. Get that at patreon.com/davemaher.

Vashon Jordan Jr. spent summer 2020 photographing the uprisings in Chicago's streets after the murder of George Floyd. His photo book, Chicago Protests: A Joyful Revolution, documents Black joy during demonstrations in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Vashon's work is bright and saturated with color. We talk about why he snaps pictures from within crowds rather than on the edges and the near-death experience that became a cornerstone of his work ethic (the dude is 21 and took 17,000 photos at dozens of events this summer!).
Listen to the full episode, including the community college graduation Vashon would choose to relive and his unique perspective on the deaths of others, at patreon.com/davemaher.
