In the final part of this series, I'm talking about how none of us are meant to be just one frequency, and about what happens when one frequency gets asked to carry the work of threeWe talk about rebalancing and about the importance of finding the frequencies you don't have, both within yourself and in other people.

In Part 2 of this series, we are talking about the shadow side of our frequencies. In this episode you'll hear where I'm angry and devastated, and the truth about what I've started to wonder in the shadows. But also why animal welfare isn't full of difficult people. It's full of some of the best people alive, standing in their own shadow, unable to find the light switch.
And I'm asking us to be willing to see our shadows so we can choose to move out of them and to get into the light.

In nature, mobbing protects the vulnerable. In our workplaces, it can destroy them. In this episode, Dr. Jamie McNally discusses the difference between bullying and mobbing in animal care.

This brief episode is a reminder that none of us have mastery over this space. It is vast and complex, and we are all still learning. It's also an invitation to reach out. This topic is massive and the best way to explore it is to ensure we are having this conversation together. The language of moral injury, is never about just one person talking, so if you have something you want to explore on the podcast, or a question you want answered, please reach out. I would love to hear from you!

We talk a lot about toxic workplaces, toxic people, and how to protect ourselves from harm. But what happens when we realize the person causing harm might be us?
In this episode, Dr. Jamie McNally explores how most workplace bullying doesn't come from people who intend to cause harm or find pleasure in it; it comes from people who engage in harmful behaviors unintentionally, and that means we may just be susceptible to engaging in it, too.
"Oh Sh*t, I might be the bully!"

In animal care, we ask people to speak up for animals who cannot speak for themselves. But what happens when people don't feel safe enough to speak up at all?
Psychological safety, a term coined by Harvard professor Amy Edmondson, refers to a shared belief within a team that it is safe for interpersonal risk-taking. It means you can ask questions, admit mistakes, raise concerns, and offer ideas without fear of being punished, humiliated, or dismissed.
But when psychological safety is missing, the resulting problems are detrimental to human and non-human animals alike.
In this episode, Dr. Jamie McNally explores what psychological safety is (and isn't), why it matters in high-stakes animal care environments, and discusses both the individual and organizational-level responsibilities involved.

Animal care work is bigger than you think. And to engage ethically with it, we need to begin having some hard conversations.

This week we're talking about what happens after the decision to be brave, and how every version of who you're becoming depends on what you choose today.
The future you is real. And they're counting on you. Today.

In animal care work, we face constant ethical challenges. We see wrongdoing. We sense when something isn't right. We know things should be different.
The gap isn't usually in our knowing. The gap is in our doing.
Moral courage is the bridge between the two.
In this episode, Dr. Jamie McNally explores moral courage and the willingness to stand up for and act according to your ethical beliefs even in the presence of risk and in the absence of ethics codes, committees, and clear policies.
In the absence of external structures, moral courage often becomes a largely individual journey, but it's one you can take while being clear in your values.
