  • S9 | E10 Managing Career Change to Therapist: Course Choice and Finances

In this YouTube video I talk about making the transition from a current career to becoming a therapist, addressing two common concerns: the length of qualification and the financial transition involved in this career change.

    1. Qualification Length: many people seek the quickest route to start their private practice, but, while the theoretical part of the training might be completed more quickly, the psychological shift requiredĀ  for many can significant and ongoing.Ā

    2. Financial Transition: the financial aspect of transitioning to a therapist is another major topic and I say some more about this in this video. I talk, for example about the importance of building a financial buffer and considering part-time or flexible work to sustain an income during the transition and qualifying as soon as someone can.Ā

    3. Psychological and Emotional Considerations: I also touch on the psychological challenges of this career change, such as managing fear and anxiety, which can impact the ability to build a successful practice.

  • S9 | E7 What If You Don’t Agree With the Group in Therapy Training?

In this episode, I explore the pressure that therapy trainees, and therapists more generally, can sometimes feel to go along with dominant views within training groups, supervision, or wider therapy spaces.

What happens when we don’t feel safe to express a different opinion?
What are the effects on our growth, learning and sense of self when we hold back?
And how do we create environments where difference is truly welcome?

I’d really love to hear your thoughts on this one, especially if you’ve experienced something similar in your own training.

  • S9 | E6 How to GROW on Social Media as a Therapist (Without BURNOUT)

If you're a therapist or therapist-in-training looking to enhance your social media presence while staying true to your values, hopefully this video is for you.

I explore your WHY, your WHO, and your WHAT — three key questions if you want to grow on social media in a way that feels sustainable and authentic. Drawing from my own experience, I share how social media can support (rather than drain) both your practice and your personal life.

    In this video, I cover:
    1. Why social media matters – The potential benefits and the costs of putting yourself out there
    2. Intentional use – How to make sure it adds value rather than overwhelm
    3. Authenticity – Why showing your real self can help build deeper connections (while also staying aware of boundaries and ethics!)
    4. Do you need a niche? – Thoughts on whether to start with one, and how it can naturally evolve
    5. Managing the challenges – Including anxiety, comparison, and the psychological impact of being online

Whether you're just starting out or trying to grow, I hope this gives you encouragement and clarity.

Therapy Training: the CONs (and some PROs!) ft Charlotte Battista

In this episode, I welcome Charlotte Battista to discuss the challenges and some of the benefits of therapy training. Charlotte is in the early stages of her counselling and wellbeing career, with a passion for corporate work and an interest in relationships. This episode provides a comprehensive look into the world of therapy training, offering practical advice and personal experiences.

Charlotte shares her background and what drew her to the field of therapy, influenced by her father's career as a mental health nurse.Ā  The conversation then delves into the potential challenges faced during therapy training, including time management, getting placements and balancing academic commitments, as well as what she might plan to do looking into the future.Ā

We talk in detail about all aspects of Charlotte's experiences to date in the training, including being one of the youngest people on her course and what that's been like for her. She also offers valuable advice for those considering a career in therapy and the significance of social media in building a professional presence and networking and shares her favourite piece of life advice: "Worry is a waste of the imagination"!
