We hate that we have to say this in the year 2020, but don't be a jerk. Baseball should be a fun, open, and inclusive place, but some stuff happened this week that ran pretty counter to those ideals. Cincinnati Reds announcer Thom Brennaman used an anti-gay slur live on the air during a broadcast and was rightly punished for it by losing his job. In Texas, the Rangers acted like crybabies over Fernando Tatis Jr. having some fun and the gods of baseball punished them with eight losses in a row.
On the more fun side of things, it's almost the trade deadline! Some teams are already wheeling and dealing this week, with interesting results! We're not sure if these are good trades, or if the trades are bad and they should feel bad.
Then things get completely off the rails. Let's talk DC Comics movies, because why not?
In a new segment that we're calling Connery's Corner, in honour of the king of movies so bad they're good, we review Highlander!
This week's Futurama Episodes of the Week: I Second That Emotion (Jacob), The Duh-Vinci Code (Ben)
Welcome to the podcast Slurm, the highly addictive future soft drink secreted from a giant alien worm! This week we talk about more fallout from the Mike Clevinger/Zach Plesac situation, the new Cincinnati Reds COVID scare and the Miami Marlins recovery process, including whether or not they should consider bringing back the players who got infected or just roll with the replacements they have.
In non-COVID news, Charlie Blackmon is chasing a .400 average for the season, even though it's severely shortened, and his teammate Daniel Bard is dealing after missing seven seasons due to mental health concerns. Somebody should get that dude a movie.
In our Uni-Watch segment, we tip our caps to MLB's handling of Negro League Day and Lovecraft Country's faithful recreation of Jackie Robinson's uniform.
Finally our Futurama Picks of the week: Attack of the Killer App (Ben), Murder on the Planet Express (Jacob)
