Nearly one year ago, Drs. Kevin Frank and Carl LeBel were on TWiH to discuss the exciting possibilities of regenerative medicine in hearing and the incredible progress, Frequency Therapeutics, has made on understanding the potential of applying it to clinical practice.   

This week they joined Brian Taylor to update us on two clinical trials and how the results of these two trials could expand the scope of hearing restoration in the future.

In November, GN announced that it was expanding the Jabra Enhance hearing offering to include Lively, a leading direct-to-consumer (DTC) hearing aid provider. Lively, which was acquired by GN in 2021, has now rebranded to Jabra Enhance and launched a new website, JabraEnhance.com, as an "online destination for better hearing enabling consumers to explore, purchase and receive hearing care from home". 

In this episode, Dr. Bob Traynor interviews CEO Adam Karp on the decision to rebrand Lively and why he believes the company can accelerate its plans being part of a larger brand like Jabra.

In this special episode, Andrew Bellavia sits down with the winners of the Academy of Doctors of Audiology (ADA) student business plan competition: Pallavi (Pooja) Sobun, Au.D. and Camden Orologio, Au.D. Their business plan was nominated among a group of finalists who were selected to present at the 2022 AuDacity Conference, which recently took place in Grapevine (Dallas), Texas.   

As winners, the pair received a $5,000 ADA cash grant to be used to advance business objectives and enhance business and leadership skills.

Dr. Michael Valente returns to make that case that audiologists should consider introducing remote microphones and TV listening devices routinely for their hearing aid patients as add-on accessories. Regular use of remote mics and TV listening devices help address the biggest complaints by hearing aid users, in spite of being well fitting with their devices - difficulty hearing in noise and difficulty hearing at a distance.  

In the presentation Dr. Valente reviews some of the research surrounding remote microphones, even evidence that shows how remote mics can provide a patient with hearing loss when listening in noise, the ability to hear better than a person with normal hearing!   He also shares how audiologists can counsel patients, reluctant to invest money to try hearing aids, to convert Air Pod Pro2’s into hearing aids and add an inexpensive Bluetooth adapter ($80) to their TV to achieve a very effective TV streamer.
