  • TWiP Apps 21: RAW Power; Apple’s RAW Power Unleashed
TWiP Apps 21: RAW Power; Apple’s RAW Power Unleashed

There are many RAW decoders on the market from companies like Adobe, Phase, DxO, Macphun and of course Apple. Apple’s RAW engine is loved by many but since the demise of Aperture, we haven’t had a way to truly access it. Sure, Photos uses the macOS RAW engine, but you have no control over it. At least you didn’t… until now. RAW Power by Gentleman Coders is a Photos extension and standalone app that gives you complete access to the macOS RAW engine in an intuitive interface that’ll feel very familiar to Aperture users largely because of who wrote it. To find out more, you’ll just have to watch the show.

Join me, PhotoJoseph, for this episode of TWiP Apps with guest Nik Bhatt, founder of Gentlemen Coders.

Find out more about RAW Power at:

Platform: RAW Power is available on macOS Sierra 10.12.2 and above

  • TWiP Apps 20: HoudahGeo; Like Pins on a Map…But Better
    TWiP Apps 20: HoudahGeo
What would it take to put your photos on the map? Apparently not much more than a GPS logger and a curiously named app called HoudahGeo. Seeing every photo you’ve made populate a globe on your screen is a fantastic way to relive old memories, find photos based on where, not when, and simply explore your photo library from a whole new dimension. Very few cameras outside of our Android and iPhones have GPS built-in, but with the addition of a little piece of hardware or even an app on your smartphone, you can record precisely where every photo was taken, every time. It’s easy. It’s fun. And it’s from Houdah Software.

Join me, PhotoJoseph, for this episode of TWiP Apps with guest Pierre Bernard, Founder of HoudahGeo.

    Website: www.houdahgeo.com

Platform: HoudahGeo is available on macOS 10.10 or later.

  • TWiP Apps 19: Aperture Exporter; Take the Blue Pill
    TWiP Apps 19: Aperture Exporter
Many Apple Aperture users are still lamenting the loss of their beloved app, holding on as tightly as they can, but knowing that eventually… they will have to let go. Today’s podcast isn’t about helping you to decide where to go, but, how to get there. Any decision you make will be a bitter pill to swallow, but to keep you out of the rabbit hole, may I recommend you take… the blue pill. Aperture Exporter by Blue Pill Software is an app that does as the name implies — it exports from Aperture. Your original photos, adjusted photos, metadata, and more, into a universal format that any app can read. No, your adjustments aren’t coming along for the ride but your adjusted images, are.

Join me, PhotoJoseph, for this episode of TWiP Apps with guest Adrian Grah, owner of Blue Pill Software Ltd.

    TWiP Apps 18: Affinity Photo
Affinity Photo, from the UK based company Serif, is ONE of an eventual three part series of apps designed to fill your photo editing, design, and page layout needs. Based on modern tech, clever engineering and perhaps a bit of magic fairy dust, Affinity Photo is incredibly fast and impressively deep. For those tired of the subscription model of certain other software companies, Affinity Photo may do everything you need at a fraction of the cost. Its brethren apps, Affinity Design for vector based illustration and a forthcoming layout app, as well as an iPad version with feature parity on the horizon, you may find that you are, in fact, ready to take your photo editing to Affinity… and beyond.

  • TWiP Apps 17: Photomatix; HDR for the Ages
    TWiP Apps 17: Photomatix
HDR, or High Dynamic Range photography, has been around for longer than you may realize — largely thanks to the engineering minds at HDRsoft. Before HDR evolved to what it is today, it started as simply tone mapping, and the generating of 32-bit images in Photoshop. Today it’s used for everything from landscapes to real estate… can be fantastical or practical… and can make the impossible, real. The results are your dreams… and the software is Photomatix.
