episode 3 of thoughts about things is live. episode 2 was about my journey with discovering systems and mirrors, and in this episode, i share my love for language. all the years i studied different systems, books, from different teachers and experts, i didn’t quite realize why i was drawn to meaning-making systems. i was gathering words. looking for the sentences that make the invisible visible. i think that’s why so many of us loved tumblr and pinterest and the early days of instagram, when we prioritized pinning and sharing quotes. someone else’s words were describing a feeling we didn’t have language for yet. and the relief we got from that was something we didn’t quite understand either.
this episode is about what happens after the relief. the words we find, and repeat, and keep repeating, eventually become the place we live. they become our home, we get comfortable, and then it’s hard to move out. i’m too much. i’m behind. i have to do everything myself. things don’t work out for me. these kinds of sentences innocently start as descriptions and quietly turned into identity. we stop hearing them as sentences or just words, that we’re creating meaning and interpreting words, really. we stop questioning whether they’re still true, or whether they were ever the whole truth.
i talk about why i’m not interested in policing my thoughts or being afraid of my own language, why forced positivity doesn’t land in my body, and what i reach for instead: accuracy. language spacious enough to hold what’s actually happening. there’s a difference between “nobody cares about me” and “i feel unsupported right now,” and that difference changes what becomes possible. we’re just looking for a little opening, not trying to change our entire lives.
some sentences become homes. some become prisons. some become bridges, or reminders, or a way back to yourself.
let me know what lands about this episode. did a particular concept or phrase stand out? i’d love to know.
