Last week we looked at part one from the doctrine of baptism. In that lesson, we saw how every believer has experienced a spiritual baptism through the Holy Spirit. We are also commanded to be baptized in water as an example and witness to this world that Jesus has saved us.

This week, in part two, we will look at seven baptisms in the Bible. We will also look at Acts 2:38 which is often used to teach you must be baptized to be saved from your sins.

The doctrine of baptism is very important to study and understand. The reason for this is because there are many false doctrines and beliefs about baptism.

For example, some believe you have to be baptized to have your sins forgiven and become a child of God. We looked at salvation a few weeks ago and saw that salvation is a gift of God by faith in Christ alone—not through good works or baptism.

I would like to divide this study into two parts. In the first part, we will look at baptism in a new believer, in the second part, we will see that there are seven different baptisms in the Bible.

This week I would like to look at the Holy Spirit in the life of a child of God. Why did God give us the Holy Spirit? Let’s see what the Bible says about this.

We have looked at how a person is saved from their sins and the wrath of God by putting their faith in Jesus Christ alone. But what happens when you trust Jesus as your Saviour? Many things! But for today let’s just look at one of them. 

When Jesus saves you, you immediately receive the Holy Spirit.

Jesus Christ spoke of this when He was here on earth in the book of John.

Joh 7:37-39  In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. 38  He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. 39  (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

This week, I would like to answer a question, “can a person lose the salvation God freely gives them?” This is a good question that many people ask. Let’s see what the Bible has to say about this.

Many people believe that salvation is a gift from God and they can not earn it, but if they sin, God will take that salvation from them. If salvation is free and we can not earn it, how can we work to keep it? We can’t. Once God gives you eternal life, you have it forever!

The belief that you can lose the eternal life God has given you, causes much pain, doubt and, no peace in the believer’s heart. Am I really going to heaven? If I sin, will God now send me to hell? Is the wrath of God on me because I sinned? These are the questions people ask themselves if they believe they can lose the salvation God has freely given them. 

The Bible says “For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.” 1 Cor. 14:33. The Bible makes it clear that God does not want his children to live in confusion. 

The Bible also says “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” 2 Tim. 1:7, and in James 1:8 “A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.” So we see that God does not want us to fear but have a sound mind—someone who doubts is unstable.

With these thoughts in mind, here are some reasons why you can’t lose the salvation God has given you.

I would like to look at the salvation of Man’s soul. How can we have our sins forgiven and once again have fellowship with God our Creator? We saw last week that God will judge our sins—our sins must be paid for.

How can our sins be forgiven—how can we be saved or have eternal salvation? Let’s see what the Bible says about this.

You may have heard the word “salvation” or the phrase “you must be saved.” What does that mean? I looked up the word salvation in the Bible to find the meaning of this. First, what are we being saved from? Our sin and the consequences of it (the wrath and judgment of God).

We have looked at how Man fell in the garden and then how all of us are sinners. But it does not end there—you can be delivered from your sin, your sin can be forgiven! God is offering you his salvation today. I hope you will ask Him to save you today.

What is sin according to the Bible and God? Man often hides his sin from God—and will even change what he considers sin—all to cover his guilt and responsibility before a holy God.

In the book of Romans chapter three, we learn about man’s sin. This chapter tells us clearly that man is a sinner before God and has no righteousness or true goodness when faced with the righteousness of God.

People have different ideas on what the word sin means. For some, it is when a person does something really bad, for example, murder. Some say it is just a weakness of Man.

I chose to believe God’s definition of the word. Today we will see what the Bible says about sin.

This week, I would like us to look at Adam and Eve disobeying God in the garden—commonly known as The Fall of Man.

The consequences of Adam and Eve’s disobedience were great. To this day we all suffer because they sinned.

We can read about this in Genesis chapter 3. In this chapter, Adam and Eve sinned against God by eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. God had told them if they eat from this tree, then they will die. The day they ate that fruit they died spiritually and in time physically. A curse was also placed upon man and the rest of creation.

Our verses from the Bible for today are found in Genesis 3:6-7:

"And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons."

Who created this earth, the animals, and most importantly—the human race? Today we will look at how God is the Creator of all these things.

Our verse from the Bible is Genesis 1:1

Gen 1:1  "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth."

The Bible starts with a firm statement: “In the beginning God…” The Bible from the very beginning establishes the fact that there is a God, there is no question or debate about it.

The creation of God is a wonderful thing. In just six days He created this heaven and earth, and all the living creatures upon it. And he created Man—His masterpiece. 

Mankind wants to be satisfied, there is a longing in our hearts for peace, satisfaction, and purpose. Some find this satisfaction and others do not. I believe this desire for satisfaction and peace is placed in our hearts by our Creator, God.

This week I would like to talk about “Satisfaction in Life.”

Our verses from the Bible are found in Psalms 4:6-7

Psa 4:6-7  "There be many that say, Who will shew us any good? LORD, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us.

7 Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than in the time that their corn and their wine increased."

Last week we looked at faith in general and how every person will put their faith in something or someone. Today I want to look at Abraham as an example of having faith in God and his word.

As children of God, we need to learn to have faith in God and trust in Him, because without faith we cannot please him.

In Romans chapter 4 we read about Abraham’s faith in God. Let’s look at four different things about his faith.

Rom 4:18-21  "Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be.

19 And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara's womb:

20 He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;

21 And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform."
